    100gms in 5 weeks - should I be concerned?

So my little man has only gained 100gms in 5 weeks and I'm not sure if this is normal for a 7 month old? He HAS had tonsilitis (on his 3rd lot of AB's now the poor lil man) so maybe that's got something to do with it? He currently has 4 x 225ml FF's a day and usually 2 solids feeds ( usually 1 fruit one and 1 veg one but sometimes he doesnt eat it all).
Do you think he's getting enough food for his age?

HI Mamaspice, my DD is 9 months old and we don't have her weighed often but it is pretty common for babies to stop putting on weight or really really slow down when they start getting a bit more active. It's a difficult time while they learn to eat solids and also start getting around movement wise so just get him weighed again in a few weeks to check he hasn't had a loss. I would def think that the AB/sickness would be a contributing factor. I think for his age it sounds like he is getting plenty of food, I go by the mantra "Food is fun until they're 1"

THe amount of food is probably ok - he's still quite young yet so most babies this age would still only be in the 'tasting & experimenting' stage rather than eating much. He'll probably still be getting more from milk anyway, particularly if you're only giving him fruit and veg.
The weight gains will be a lot slower at this age (compared to the first 3-6 months), I don't know how much is normal though. If he's been sick then taht will often slow them down quite a bit though. How does he seem? Do you have any other concerns for him?

    thanks ladies

Starangelk yes i think I will weigh him in a few weeks and just see how he's going. I've been very relaxed with weighing this time around too, but my DD was a real chubba bubba so I knew there were no concerns there whereas DS is much longer and leaner.

Madb, no other concerns. He seems pretty content with the amount of milk/solids he has. Now that I think of it, the AB's do give him more frequent runny poos so that would definately be having a part to play me thinks.

I'd disregard weight gains till he's well - he'll probably rebound and make up ground after that. I know ABs gave my DS the runs when he was very little.

As long as he is still having lots of wet nappies and looks healthy try not to worry too much. Hopefully once he is better his gains will improve.

Lump here stopped being a lump a while back ... he gained nothing from 6-8 months despite guzzling down all sorts of food.

The reason? He started commando crawling. Babies that don't stop moving apparently don't gain weight. He gained 200g from 8-9 months though.

Pie's gains got verrrry slow after 6 months. I think it's best to look at it over a longer period of time as they get older, you get an idea of the bigger picture - are they generally happy & healthy, that kind of thing, you know?

Just thought I'd weigh in (oh someone stop me!) ...

My guy is 7 months and I haven't weighed him for a long time... I figure as long as he's eating/drinking and having plenty of wet nappies and is happy enough, he's doing fine. For a while he was pretty skinny, and lots of people commented, but they weren't taking into account how tall he is. He's got a couple of rolls on his legs and on his arms, so unless they disappear, I won't be worrying. I have NO idea how much he weighs!

I wouldn't worry too much if he's happy and well x

MamaSpice, the quantity of solids at 7 months sounds fine. Most babies don't need much at that age. However did you know that the recommendation is now for meat to be introduced as one of the earliest foods? Meat (or meat substitute for vegetarians) is the best source of iron and zinc for babies. These nutrients are usually the first to be needed from external foods (ie not breastmilk) and are really important for brain development. Iron fortified cereals etc do not have zinc, and the iron in that form is poorly absorbed.

I have a completely roll-free baby! He's nicely covered and has rubber band wrists, but not a fat roll in sight.

After having two Michelin-man girls with rolls everywhere, I can only deduce that all girl babies get rolls, and all boy babies stay roll free

Was the opposite for me! Two skinny girls and now that ds's intolerances are worked out he is rolly polly.
