9 months after breastfeeding & still has milk???

A friend of mine stopped breastfeeding her LO at 15months and 9 months later she will occaisionally have a squeeze and droplets of milk will come out. Just wondering if this is normal and how long will/can it last for?

I don't know if it is normal, but it happened to me. I had elevated levels of prolactin and just needed a dose of dostinex to stop lactation.

I think it's pretty variable, yeah. Some women can get milk aaaaaages afer they've stopped breastfeeding.

oh so it's normal. It sounded so unusual. I never checked when I stopped feeding DS1 though I only fed him for 10 months. I have to wonder if the longer you nurse the longer you will produce?? Any truth to that?

I would say its normal. I had milk and occassionally leaked in the 4years I wasn't BF between no1 and no2. My friend had a m/c and went on to have her first born 8years later and had the same for those 8years. At any time during the time I had milk but wasn't BF I am confident I could have easily started relactating. I think thats why in some cultures so many women can BF the babies (granparents, aunts etc) even many years after they have had a baby themselves as they haven't completely dried up.

I didn't actively check, but I had milk at least nine mths after I stopped bfing (I bf for almost 4 yrs). I'd say it's going to vary from woman to woman and may be a hormonal thing, rather than being dependent on how long you bf for. Good dairy producers in my family.

My mum could still get milk out up until a couple of years ago when menopause started. She's 50, and it had been 18 years since she BF!! It was apparently a little green though :/
