Question Breast surgery (reduction) and BFing

    G'day,

Although Blobble hasn't made its arrival yet, I'm wondering if there is any experience here on breastfeeding after a reduction.

2 years ago I had surgery from an "F" down to a "D", which was a total loss of 1.2kg over both breasts. This included a repositioning of my nipples. The surgeon did say he'd try to allow BFing but couldn't guarantee.

I'm hoping to BF but am taking the view "if it happens it happens if it doesn't it doesn't".

Any hints / clues / war stories? I had a look back over about 6 pages here but couldn't see anything posted...

    Ta in advance

I spent quite a bit of time when we were in hospital with a girl who had a breast reduction as both our bubs were in the SCN and our feeding times co-incided. Her little girl had been very prem and was being breastfed 3 x each day plus EBM the rest. She had her reduction (about the same as yours from memory) after DS 1 and was then told at Knox that she wouldn't be able to feed DS 2 due to the reduction. The staff at the Royal Women's and Mitcham got her going straight away and she was having no problems with DD despite all the difficulties/stress with her being prem and still in the SCN 6 weeks after her birth.

    Good luck!

Kazbah, I have also had a reduction.
Im thinking along the same lines as you - "if i can i can, if i cant then i cant" My boobs have been leaking a little for about 8 weeks now - this im taking as a good sign - but not getting my hopes up. I would really love to BF but if i cant im not going to let it get me down, im hopeing to at least get a couple of feeds from them a day - but if not then so be it.

    Good luck!

Kazbah, I would think that the ABA would have some good tips for you. I've just become a member and I can't believe how much info there is out there! It can't hurt to check Good luck!

I've started producing colestrum - is this a good sign that all will be well?
