Breastfeeding Beyond 12 Months

So I'm not feeding my DS anymore, he weaned at 21 months, but at 27 months he still scrunches my boobs to sleep. It. Never. Ends. Partly drives me crazy and partly awesome that boobs are still his safest place.
And kudos to those still feeding, I do miss it.

"How do you feel about two year olds breastfeeding?"
"It seems really awkward. Why not just pump?"

Excuse me while laugh hysterically. Yeah, because trying to pump with my two year old around is soooo much easier than just boobing her normally. I get not being supportive of full-term breastfeeding, but that's just silly.

pumping with a toddler around? that sounds awkward to me! I think some people don't get that breastfeeding is more than just about breastmilk.

My DD never liked EBM. If I pump some milk now, she tells me it is "E-fun's milk" (DS' milk).

We're coming up to 17 months soon and still feeding twice a day He's actually been quite sick and has had much more feeds, so glad I was still feeding.

Well I get to join in here DS is just over 12 months now and still going strong. Hoping to get to 24 mths again and then see how things go. The older boy made it to one day short of 26 months, only stopped cause I couldn't stand the pain of feeding while 9wks pregnant (at least it was only bedtime feed at that stage). My goal's been 2yrs and see how things go each time.

Tandem feeding whilst pregnant=hard. Have got DD down to two feeds a day even though she requests it way more but it's a start. DS still feeds a heap, not sure how many feeds lol was hoping to wean DD before this Bub comes along but it seems impossible at the moment :/

I have been feeding DS for 20 months yesterday! I planned to survive as long as I could and after an extremely rocky start with a dr telling me to give up and suffering from vasospasm and terrible thrush. I have survived!
DS is now a good weight and happily feeding about 3-4 times a day.
He feeds just before bed (sometimes to sleep and sometimes goes down awake and settles himself with a little chat)
He has a Boobie Smorgasboard from about 5,30 onwards in the morning usually taking about 1 hr to feed then crashing off to sleep next to me in bed...........I don't get much sleep then arrggghhh.
During the day he gets one or two more feeds depending on what he asks for.
He is a nipple twiddler too but can usually be re-directed to play with the middle of my bra or the blanket in bed.
I am pleased we've made it this far but I'm getting ready to "have my boobs back"...........

Having a period of "argh am I ever gonna get my body back?" At the moment. I know why it's happening (not bf related at all) and I know i will push through it. But it's hard going. I'm having to switch off for a while when I feed. It's like the first five minutes or so until we are both settled and relaxed I just have to not be right there. I think is cos my problems are pain and stress related so I just need to not be aware of I tense up which makes us both uncomfy and makes the feeding painful. Once we have settled and she stops wiggling and the pain elsewhere settles down I can be back in the moment. I think dd is aware of it (not in a bad way though). She always discharged necks just after I start feeling ok about everything again and speaks to me. It might be something really silly to make me smile of just a quite "love you mummy" but its like she knows its time to establish that bond again. Hopefully that need to disconnect passes soon. I know I could manage the pain better if I weren't bf cos I could take different pain killers. But bf is too important for us at this point so alternative pain management is a must

Hi awesomesauce! Give it time. Tandem feeding can be quite hard yakka, so don't be too desperate for it!

And for me...
I can deal with other adults and their comments about feeding, but what about when another two year old tells mine "you don't need boobie anymore!" Heartbreaking.

You need to teach her to say "you're just jealous!". I really do admire you for being able to tandem feed - given that boobie pain was definately one of my symptoms, I doubt I'll be able to feed through pregnancy, although I don't think this will be too much of an issue for DD as long as I give her some other form of special one-on-one time.

Ladylove - it doesn't surprise me too much that your DD is feeding like crazy right after ovulation - I've read that ovulation, like visits from the dreaded AF, can cause a drop in milk production, so DD is probably trying to remind the 'cows' that they've still got work to do!

As of today I have been breastfeeding non-stop for 4 days shy of 4 years. And I've been triandem feeding the three kids for 1 year and 2 days. I've always been pretty passionate about breastfeeding, but even I am surprised at how much my kids love "MummaMilk" and how long they are feeding for.

Two years was my goal. I wanted to breastfeed my kids to the WHO recommended age and then let them self-wean when they were ready.

I actually thought DS would wean between 2 and 3 years of age, but he's still feeding and is turning 4 in four days. He recently told me that he wanted his last MummaMilk when he has his birthday, because then he would "be a big boy and not need MummaMilk any more... just jelly!" ♥

My DD1 is 27 months and probably gets as much (or more) milk than my DD2 who is 13 months. She wants it all the time, lol. DD2 has most of her feeds over night, but still likes quite a few during the day as well.

How funny is this though? A couple of years ago I asked DS what MummaMilk tasted like and he told me "marshmallows". My DD1 has never heard him say that, but recently when I asked her the same question she answered with "marshmallow" as well!

I wanted to make it to 2 years with both of mine but they both went off it around 15 months! To be fair I was pregnant when my DD decided she didn't like it any more, must have tasted weird.

My darling little 14mo DD has just become a gymnast overnight! She used to happily lie still (apart from legs kicking) for feeds and her worst offense was shoving her fingers into my mouth or pulling on my lips. Now all of a sudden she's turning over, crawling off, coming back for another suck etc... I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the fact she just learned how to pull to stand against furniture?

Today my beautiful DD is two years old, which means we have been breast feeding for two years! She drives me batty at times, but for the most part I love that we are still breastfeeding, and still going strong (she still feeds heaps!).

Here she is doing her favourite thing in the whole world .

I have a sore boob again, lefty on the side and into the armpit. DS and i have been sick and he is feeding lots. mmm, actually maybe it is the glands rather than boob? gonna jump in the shower and check it out.
