Aw Hot1, congrats on your DD being able to choose her own time. How are you feeling about it?
Bit daunted by tandem feeding come January, mostly 'cause I'm not sure DD2 will want to share. I am also hoping there's no more night bfs by then!
Congrats Joeve on 14 wks!
Jellybean, hope you can manage the feeling. I'm not fond of the bfing feeling atm, but I look at how much DD2 loves it and watching her little face just makes it so much better.
HotI I think milk and broccoli upsets her a bit too but not as bad as chocolate, I did consider d-mer but I think its settling a tiny bit so hoping it just keeps getting less and less, I really like the idea of the pendant.
Wow Joeve, what a great aim!
I'm still aiming for 6 months. I've now been feeding DD2 exclusively for longer than I fed DD1. It's amazing how much easier it seems this time and also how much easier it gets as time goes on.
what d-mer?
Cause I am in the process of trying to cut out all dairy and OMG its going to be hard. Have swapped to soy, but alot of meals i cook have small amounts in it. How far do i go?
DD is a very grumbly/rumbly tummy girl and pretty unsettled. She is though only waking once a night. I didnt think I ate alot but looking into it , its in most meals without even thinking.
there is a link in my sig re DMER =)
Way to go Joeve, Chody and Jellybean! JB well done for identifying the cause. I hope things improve.
Beatrix congrats on DD! My SIL did elimination then reintroduction to see how much she could have of almost everything. That is great she is only waking once in the night.
Jennifer is it your pregnancy that is causing the discomfort? I found BFing my toddler while pregnant to be very full on and painful. But like you I knew she loved it so much. Things did improve a bit after 1st trimester although I ended up restricting her to just one side for the rest of my pregnancy as one side was more painful than the other. It became our little BFing story every time we sat down for a feed. One 'buboo' was for mummy and one was for DD ;)
TT - wow I had no idea about D-MER. Do you have a thread about your experiences with it?
Congrats HotI what a fantastic run.
As we rapidly approach DS's birthday (omg), I've been trying to get him to take a bottle or drinker or milk or formula. It's a no-go. He either spits it out or chucks a tanty.
He's a constant feeder and now he's over his cold I'd like to start weaning him. I'm exhausted by it, I've enjoyed it while we had no issues, but he's such a biter. I get worried every time he wants a feed because he bites. Sometimes bites and throws his head around without letting go of my nipple. It's murder. It's usually at the end of a feed.
Anyway. Any ideas how to drop some feeds?
Is it possible to mix feed (mayby one or 2 bottles a week) without expressing but not have your supply drop?
Congratulations Char! You have made it this far, you won't need bottles or formula. Go straight to cups.
Have you checked out any articles on weaning on the ABA site?

Does he like cows milk in food? Some kids just aren't in to dairy, or just not into milk, and you can calcium etc in other foods.
He has milk in puddings, weetbix, etc.
Sweet. How do you do feeds now? Are they at set times of the day, or more random? Does he ask for them, or do you just offer when you think he needs/wants them?
One way is to move to set feed times, and then drop one of these feeds every few days or weeks.
Another way is to go with "don't offer, don't refuse", where you wait for him to ask for a feed. Sometimes this works, other times not. It depends on the child.
Keeping busy around the normal feed time, and changing where you sit are ways to encourage non-feeding.
Heat the milk up a bit if you're not already- that made a huge difference with DD. another thing you could try is popping some milk in a grown up cup and start to drink it yourself- babies tend to want anything an adult is eating / drinking!
Hi Jellybean,
Mix feeding might make your supply dip (if it doesn't you will end up with full sore boobs, so you kinda want it to adjust to the level that you are feeding bub), but many mothers can find that it works for them, and they continue to breastfeed for a long time.
If you don't feed for a longer period, especially in the early days, you may feel you need to express because your boobs get uncomfortable. This can also lead to blocked ducts if the milk doesn't move through.
I had a meeting last night so he stayed home with DH. he had about 100ml out of his drinker and slept better than he has for months. Probably a coincidence.
We don't have set feed times, he just comes up to me, most hours, and slapping my chest and yelling at me hehe.

I have been bf for a year!!
the only difference between today and yesterday... today she tried to eat a piece of toast at the same time =p
does any onecelses little one try to smoosh food into your nipple? some hope in combining food and milk?
I tried to express some milk for dd to try out a bottle but I was only able to get 30ml out :s so prob take me a few attempts to get enough for one meal I'm not sure why only that much is that normal?
Bf still making me feel nauseous
I have been expressing since I went back to work 1 day a week when she was 2 weeks old. This last week she refused the bottle so had to be brought to me at work to feed.
We have been trying to get her to take but no way will she! We have tried other people other locations where I am 30 mins away and no go!
Any suggestions?
how old is she now Joeve?
JB88, 30ml is pretty good. over time, expressing amounts often increase as your breasts get used to it. however, i often only got 50ml out of both breasts (total), but i have able to feed 2 kids, including simultaneously so how much you express is not a good indicator of supply.
Hi ladies,
I may be returning to work two days per week with DD who will be around 10/11 mths old then. I am thinking of doing full time EBM rather than part bf and part EBM/formula (?). My question is how do I know how much I need to express for her per feed/per day?? I want to get a good stash in the freezer prior to going back to work and will be able to express at work if need be. I haven't bf for this long so I really have no idea what I am doing or should be doing/considering.

I should add that DD will take a bottle - I have expressed before as an experiment to see if I can express and also she will take water from a bottle
HotI she is 15 weeks and she started not taking it a week ago. She pushes it out with her tongue, smiles and gurgles then if you try a bit more cries!
I love bfing her it's just that I do need to go to work this one day a week!
Joeve perhaps post a separate question for Barb Glare. She may not see your problem in here. Rhichichi I'm sorry I don't know but hopefully someone with experience will be able to advise you. My instinct says if you start to express whenever you have an opportunity then you can start your frozen stores and then start expressing when you would normally feed her you could faze in EBM feeds before you return to work so she's used to it once you return. Once you're back at work can you express there to continue your supply and her next day feeds?
Joeve, my Mum had some success feeding ebm by spoon with a couple of the little ones who weren't keen on bottles (temporarily or ongoing).
I was able to have DS with me or brought to me when he was that little. DD was older, and she would just hang out until she could feed from the breast, nothing worked for her. 15 weeks is a bit little to just wait til she folds though.
RhiChiChi, maybe the exclusive expressing women can help you with how much you would need. Is there a reason you want to switch from breastfeeding to bottle/cup feeding?

We've made it to just over 12 weeks BF now - yay! Still using nipple shields. It's working for us so I'm hesitant to stop, especially as his attachment without them is terrible. But I'm so used to them now it doesn't bother me. One quarter of the way to my one year goal!
RCC: Maybe aim for about 200mL per day? Unlikely she'll want much more than that, but a stash that size will set you in good stead.
Joeve you could try ebm in a little cup?
HotI - the reason for me thinking I will just go straight to EBM Is that for two full days (apart from when I get home from work, which will be anywhere from 6pm onwards) she won't be on the breast, she will be feeding via bottle so was thinking (possibly incorrectly) that it would be easier for both of us, my hubby and her carers to have all her feeds via bottle. Thanks for the links, ill check in there
Thanks LM, I was thinking around that amount given that is what a formula fed babe would have
Thanks for the suggestions I will experiment with a spoon and cup tomorrow :)
Good job Mrs P!!!
No luck this bubba will not be tricked into anything except booby :)
Oh well looks like we are up for some fun days ahead! I am hoping once we start solids she might be more receptive to trying the bottle again!
Hmm have you tried different teats? Often it may not make a difference but with DD she refused a bottle until we introduced the Pigeon Peristaltic teat. It certainly could have been completely coincidental but we don't know!
LL that's tomorrow's plan. We use those teats already :)
She will not even entertain the idea of anything going into her mouth!!
Richichi, at this age (she’s around 7mnths?) she knows how the system works - mum’s home = boobies; mum’s at work = bottles (or a cup). Usually there is no drama much for the baby. When you are at work it will be easy to express when you are full, but who wants that workload when you are home (which after all is the majority of the week.) Most mums find it pretty easy to have the carer feed EBM when they are at work and breastfeed when they are home.
Joeve, how old is your little one now?
Barb she is 15 weeks. Was transitioning from breast to ebm bottles and back again beautifully until about 10 days ago! She is just determined it's booby or nothing :)
2 weeks til DS turns 1 and still no go with milk. He's so stubborn. It is driving me nuts, he still gets rocked to sleep usually after a feed. But, all of a sudden, it's feed to sleep or screaming. I don't want him to cry for the boob, but I just want to stop breastfeeding so badly but it just isn't working. He just yells, slaps, screams, spits out milk until I get a boob out.
Spock has completely refused right boob all day... feeding fine off left. any ideas why? tia
