Haven't posted for a while - things are still going well here. We've just passed 11 months and going strong! DS doesn't seem to have dropped any feeds yet - though he might be feeding for less time at some of them.
Anyway, the main reason I came to post is that AF returned today. I have to say, I didn't miss her . I am kind of glad AF has returned now - I was always a little worried I'd have to wean DS in order to TTC (when we decide to again) - so it's a relief in a way.
I was wondering if that's what your FB status meant Selina, rofl.
AF isn't back for me yet either!! We were thinking of TTC again around June and I'm getting worried.
Lol Heaven - I was hoping it was cryptic enough for the men not to understand, but maybe women (esp BBers to) - Haha, looks like it worked . Even my DH came on and asked "Who's back" and I told him this morning that AF has come, lol.
We often end up having things in common with our bubs... maybe AF will show up for you in 2 weeks, lol
Actually, DS has been sleeping a bit better recently - doing 5-6 hours before waking, and only waking once a night a few times... maybe that's got something to do with it?
Well ladies, I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself today had to get Amelia weighed today because she had the low gain in the first week after leaving hospital. Well this week she has gained a whopping 350 grams!!! I am so happy that we don't have to go through the stress we did with DS.
DD is started to clamp down towards the end of a feed... no teeth but OUCH! Will be going to an ABA meeting tomorrow so was going to talk to the counsellors about it but wanted to ask my lovely BBers as well... apart from taking her off at the first sign she is finished the feed (as opposed to using me as a dummy sort of thing) what else can I do. I don't think she realises she is doing it - it appears more to be that she doesn't want to lose the nipple from her mouth so even putting my pinky in to break suction doesn't really help as she doesn't care the suction isn't there but once the nipple starts to come out of her mouth she clamps
Eluned, well done great to hear DS has put on 350gm, go you!
Sterla & Heaven, #2 how exciting!! I still have no AF but I won't worry till DS is a bit older (may have to do IVF again) but don't want a huge gap.
tk1999, sounds like she has a strong suck there! I am not sure what to do except as you have said take her off. DS got a tooth last week, luckily he hasn't got me...... yet!
olive
AFM all good plodding along. I taught dance today and on Tues (man, I am sore, after a whole year off plus having DS MAN I am rusty!!!). I gave my mum EBM and DS drank it all up! He has alos started rice cereal at night and he loves it! He can use the spoon so well and is trying to take it off me lol! Wants to feed himself already!
TK - when she "bites" just pull her off and look her in the eyes and say NO. Start the feed again and if she does it again, do the same thing but put her down instead of restarting the feed.
We went through a biting phase (with a few teeth though, OW) and still have moments sometimes; I found for the first two or three times Stellan listen to me saying NO in a stern voice but then he just got cheeky and the only thing to fix it was to tell him NO and put him down/stop the feed. After one or two times of him tantying because I stopped his feed he clued in and now its rare for him to bite (unless he is distracted).
Hi everyone. Hope I can join in. Just thought I'd pop in and reaquaint myself. I used to LIVE in this chatter thread...but I had to bid farewell when we decided to TTC#2 (IVF) and DS1 and I had to give up bf.
But I'm back now!! Some familiar faces () are still here I see.
Hopefully I'll be getting some time for personal later
hi to everyone else - no persies - brain not working - damn headaches!
AFU - BF is still going strong - DD is quite vocal in what she wants and when she wants it - when she wants a BF, everyone within hearing distance knows about it! BOOBF! and the excitement when i start to undo bra and put her in position! so cute! lately, she has started to become very chatty in the middle of bf - drops off, natters til she gets my attention, then i get big smiles, mmmmmmmm boobf, mmmmmmm and then she grabs onto my breast again! it's so beautiful!
we're working on expressing and getting her to drink EBM from others as i will be going back to work in the not too distant future. she is fantastic - takes EBM from daddy even when i'm in the room. my first thought was that it is fantastic. my second was that i've been made redundant - as long as she gets the milk, she doesn't care how. now i'm torn. maybe it's cos it was daddy, it was ok (we have made sure that she knows daddy is a comfort provider when upset/hurt) - i dunno - it's hard! i want to feel needed for ME, not just the milk i can offer! silly i know, but i don't know how to beat it!
expressing and I are getting better acquainted - still not comfortable with it (big boobs make it difficult to be comfy pumping) - but i can get anywhere from 20-120ml when i express - guess it just depends on the day...
Eluned - Wohooo well done!! You're doing great! that must feel awesome.
I'm hoping with bub #2 we don't have the same probs we had with DD either... the low weight gains... low milk supply, top up feeds, expressing, weak suck etc etc I will be sooo very nervous!!! I can't possibly go thru all those weeks and months of stress and tears again! it was too hard.
But well worth the hard work i must say tho
Well, our baby girl turns ONE in just 6 days!!!! can't quite believe it!!
And that means we've been BF'ing for nearly 12 mths!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!! who'd ever thought.... we had days where we had to take it day by time, then week by week and now we are here!!!!!!
and still going strong after such a bumpy start. SO PROUD.
We're talking about TTC #2 ALOT lately and DH is so keen now so we are just seeing what happens for now (he's been keen since DD was 6mths!!) but will probably start offiically in March! Exciting. Yay! My cycle is regular 32 day cycle so that is really great!!
Be lovely to have a sibling for DD. She loooves babies. And we've been reminiscing over DD's birth photos alot and getting very clucky again!!
I'm another one here who is getting BITTEN ALOT!!!!!! No matter what I do, DD still does it. I tell her "no" very firmly, she laughs.... I tell her "hurts Mummy" and take it off her and she thinks its funny, and I have tried pressing her face into my breast so she can't breathe! (ABA recommended that!) and that doesn't work either... she pulls off and just does it again later or tomorrow! OUCH!!!!! I went thru enough pain in the early weeks!
Any ideas anyone?? Other tips?
What? No way! 12 months already!? I swear everybody else's babies grow way faster than mine!
Well done with the expressing BG. Hopefully it'll just get easier and easier as you go.
Re biting - saying NO didn't really work for us. But immediately putting DS down adn even leaving the room did get the message through. And the last time he did it I put him down, left the room and closed the door behind me, then came back a minute later and told him I wouldn't feed him for the rest of the day (which i didn't till bed tiem). Sounds harsh I know, but it actually did work.
Well, W-day has been pushed back a bit due to work commitments, but it's still looming very soon. I'm really cutting back now - 0-1 feeds per day. Probably only 1 month or so left.
ETA - well done Eluned! That's absolutely fabulous news
Shanti: Exciting, exciting!!! I can't believe it';s only 6 days for you! We're not too far behind you here . Ouch about being bitten!!! I've been lucky here so far!
We are still going well here - like I said to Shanti, we are nearing 12 months of breastfeeding - only a couple of weeks to go!
In the past few weeks I have noticed that DS has started dropping feeds. He was having heaps before - still up to 8 in a 24 hour period. Now we're down to roughly 5-6. It seems to have happened so quickly and without me realising. He started feeding for shorter and shorter periods of time, and now he'll have a couple of sucks and then want to get down if it's not time for a feed.
I keep thinking I'm starving him or something - but he simply doesn't want booby as much as he once did, and I suppose he is eating more and more. I think it has probably all happened quite gradually, but it's only just hit me recently.
I know he's nowhere near weaning, but the process has begun . I'm not sure how I feel... sad mainly, cause I am nowhere near ready for DS to wean. I just need to keep reminding myself that he's not going to wean anytime soon... I hope!
Shanti - I can't believe your little princess is almost 1!!! How fast did that go?!?!
I have got my first lump. DD has been on a feeding frenzy the last couple of days and my supply has increased so much it seems. I've managed to get her to drain the L side but the lump is still there although a bit smaller from me massaging it while she feeds. I also had to express some off. Can someone remind me what else I can do and what to watch out for for mastitis?
Eluned - watch out for any reddness, heat radiating from the lump or anywhere on the breast, flu like symptoms, any further lumps.
What can you do - next feed - face bubs chin towards the lump - will help to massage it out, as well as the things you already said - express and massage the lump whilst feeding.
I am going through a bit of the same due to a feeding frenzy towards the end of last week when we were in Cowra and it was a bizillion degrees (well mid 40's - might as well be a bizillion!)
