ripped off!
The achy boob could also just be engorgement...I get mixed up about which boob I should feed from and sometimes do the same one a few times in a row (especially at night) and then a few days later I am all lopsided with one huge hard boob.
Yes breastfeeding is such guess work...I still don't know what I'm doing some days and I've been feeding for 2.5 yrs. My sil always said your baby has a relationship to your boobs that doesn't involve you (meaning your brain)... So I just always offer. Its hard because some babies will make themselves sick with milk, while others just refuse if they're not hungry...
Eventually they learn the art of sucking without drawing so much milk...
yeah, i think it does generally work better if you switch your brain off. i find that very hard though being an overthinker
Got AF.
Completely ripped off I say!!! *stamps feet*
Oh, ripped off all right!
That could explain any fussiness too though bc apparently it can change the taste.
i got a BFP and i think my milk supply is going down. I don't want bub to wean. She doesn't eat enough solids to sustain herself, let alone all the other benefits. If she keeps feeding will i keep making milk?
Well I'm finding breastfeeding in winter interesting. I feel like I am going to smother her in the bunches of all my clothes. Not to mention actually getting to my boob under all the layers. I don't seem to have one practical item of winter clothing. Oh and freezing cold nose and mouth first thing in the morning isn't fun either.
Ripped off about the period Arimeh that really sucks.

oo congrats hoti! it certainly can affect supply. Your milk should continue so long as she feeds, but to what extent I don't know (I think it varies from woman to woman :dunno:)
Far out that's unfair A
I hate cold nose in the morning!
Kate, congrats on the BFP! My milk dropped dramatically at 16 weeks. DD continued to feed, but was more than willing to roll over and go to sleep without a boob because there really wasn't much there. I started getting loads of colostrum towards the end (I could tell from DD's poos) and DD didn't seem to notice the change. I also noticed DD's food intake increased heaps when my milk went down. Don't stress...your DD won't starve herself!
Having fed through pregnancy, I can say I am happy I perservered, although I am having doubts about this tandem feeding business. Its hard when you're trying to feed a newborn and a toddler is screaming for boobie! I can't/won't have them on at the same time, so DD has to wait. She 's only feeding 2x a day, but occasionally DS needs to feed when she really needs it to go to sleep. Needless to say, they are my most stressful times.
I don't want to scare you off tandem feeding, because I wouldn't change a thing!
that sucks Mel with the AF (oh and congrats for feeding your DD4 so long keep going)
I don't post in here often but do read so I keep up with what's happening but...
Someone tell me that the 3hrly feeds overnight for my 22mth old DS will end soon.:pray::pray::pray:
He's just started up again (!:wall:) feeding 3hrly overnight - I thought we were getting close to the actually sleeping through (ie only waking 1-2 o'night); he's also started in the past week or so to feed on both sides - he hasn't done that since about 4mths old (occasionally but not this regularly). I've ended up falling asleep in the glider again and it's not being nice to my lower back doing that. The lack of sleep is just about killing me as I'm working basically full time in the classroom and lack of sleep generally means a very grumpy teacher. DS won't let DH get up to him in the middle of the night either :( unless he wants to be awake for a while. I'm yet to see evidence that it's a growth spurt either - doesn't seem much heavier than usual or taller yet.
Teeth?
I've been meaning to post here, but never seem to be able to find the time.
I'm back here - I'm breastfeeding again!!! :leap: After DS self-weaning at 22 months, here I am 5 months later now feeding my new baby girl. I think everything is going okay, but of course there's always that constant worry about whether she's getting enough, etc. She's happy and settled and filling her nappies though, so all signs point to everything being well :).
The big thing for me this time round is that we are feeding without nipple shields. DS fed with nipple shields the entire 22 months, but so far I haven't needed them this time!
I'm sure I'll be back here from time to time with questions and concerns.
(Oh, and Mel that is so unfair about AF!!!!)
could be the 2yr old molars trying to come through - haven't seen or felt them yet (we apparently like biting here  anything and everything - mummy's pjs, nipples, other people, toys, sheets ..... and the list goes on but it's mainly when he's tired or just waking up in the morning after he comes in with us)
HotI- Congratulations!! I fed DD1 all through my pregnancy. My milk supply did go down a lot somewhere in the middle but I'm sure there was still something there and then I got colostrum. She did drop her feeds a lot but she was having A LOT before I got pregnant, like 10 a day or something at 14 months! So she went down to 2 feeds which was ok with me :) But I did make sure I tried to offer her those feeds anyway if she was distracted and not interested so that I didn't lose my milk completely. I found as long as she kept feeding regularly I made milk for her. Good luck!
Sterla- I was wondering about you and how it was going coz I know you used the shields with DS. Yay for it all going great so far!! So happy for you!!
Argh...one word VASOSPASM! Why now? Both my kids have good attachment...is it the cold weather?? It huuuuurrrrtttsss!
Welcome Sterla! And yay for no shields!
Hi all!
Thought i may properly introduce myself :) I've popped in a couple times before, but not alot!
I've been feeding my DD for just over 3 months now! and things are going so well! After all the initial rockiness we've settled in nicely. Just have to say I :heartbeat: feeding my little girl! I love the looks she gives and knowing that *I* am the one feeding her and making her grow! :)
Not sure what else to say?
Oh, im curious, how has everyone's feeding been since teething? Im beginning to think Ayva is starting to teeth from different symptoms and it's got me worried about whether it'll hurt once those teeth come through! :/
I got mine back too about 1.5 weeks ago! (around 12 weeks PP) I was somewhat relieved because my AF has never been regular, but annoyed at the same time! Now I KNOW I'm ovulating, not just praying I'm not
Welcome xxhopexx and congrats on feeding your little one!
I know the thought of teeth on your boob is scary, but having fed a toddler with ALL her teeth and then a newborn I can say you can't really tell the difference. Some kids do like to try and bite, especially when teething, but it shouldn't last long.
Keep enjoying those milky smiles...breastfeeding is so rewarding, despite the challenges.
Really not liking the tender pregnancy boobs! Feeds seem to take fooooorever but they aren't, it is just the discomfort. It seems the worst when I haven't fed for a while (like if she sleeps through and then wants a morning feed). When does it get better? I'm around 7 weeks.
Hi everyone!
I can't answer any questions cos I don't know the answers lol
I weighed Sahti on sunday - 100g gain in a week, hope that is good enough!!
She slept through last night too - woohoo!!! I was covered in milk this morning though lol
100g is awesome hun!
On the AF front - i used to (pre assisted conception) go 6 to 9 months with no AF, so i expected BF round the clock to keep her at bay - she came back at 6.5 months and has actually been semi regular. i suspect they have been anovulatory bleeds though. we're not avoiding the chance of getting pg and 18 months of semi-regular and no pg...
Finally had DD weighed today. She is now 4.27kg, so has gained 420g on her birth weight in 15 days! So happy to know my milk is there and making her grow! I hope we can keep it up!
Woot Sterla!! :leap:
Just quickly - DD3 is up 200g in 6 days - now weighs 4.9kg!! :happydance:
And even more woot-ish - 8 weeks breastfeeding for us!! :happydance:
WTG on 8 weeks! well done Mrs NB!
That is awesome Mel!!! I'm so proud of you my friend :D.
Well done Sterla and Mel!
I'm sure you guys are sick of me having my stupid little celebrations - but we passed 2 months yesterday!!
Sometimes she has been having both sides in one feeding session, most times if she does this its only a short feed on the second side so I put her back on that side first for the next feed. Hope thats right!
She has been sleeping through lately too - she had a feed at 7pm last night, I tried to do a dream feed at 11pm but she wasn't waking up for anything! Then woke up at 5am - felt like I was going to explode lol
Weigh in tomorrow!
Mrsnerdburger: yay for 2mths!! And yay for the sleeping thru!
Lately DD is feeding every 2hrs overnight and has been for a few weeks. Is this just a stage because it is rather exhausting. Don't get me wrong I'm happy to feed her that much but yeah very tiring!
Me too em...
congrats on the milestones guys :)
We have reached 16 months so far :)
Em - i think at 4 months theres a big growth spurt? Maybe it will settle down soon.
Im hoping DS cuts out the night feeds soon :S
She didn't gain anything this week. Still 4.9kg :(
Do I panic now? I thought everything was going well :(
Don't panic! How old is she now? Is she still growing & developing? It's only 1 week - you have to average these thigns out over time. Look at her - does she look ok? The numbers on the scale are just one indicator, not themost importnt one.
DD hasn't gained anything in the past 6 weeks. She's grown though, and doesn't look thinner. Weird.
Don't panic Mel  does she look taller? Maybe she is just growing in that way. It is only one week, how is the bigger picture? Wet nappies? Contentment? I'm sure it is fine, babies do have spurts and slow periods.
She looks fine I think? I can still squeeze her into 000, but did have her in a 00 today just to try it on for size. I don't find that really reliable since baby clothes are all over the shop with their sizings though. Grrr.
Nappies are wet, averaging 3 poos a day.
Maybe I should measure her length?
Mad- thanks for the reassurance. Are you not concerned about her weight gain? I think because my last mchn was so stressed out about eden's weight that I'm stressed out. Anything less than 100g wasn't acceptable to her. And that makes me stress lol
yeah, but it's only 1 week. Their weight gains can vary enormously week to week, so unless there are other signs of immediate concern (floppy, listless, dehydrated, etc) then it's best to wait it out for another couple of weeks and see how it goes. She's over 2 months now, right? From the 3-month mark (or thereabouts) the weight gains do slow down a lot.
At DD's age the weight can tend to plateau, so I'm not concerned. She seems fine to me. Also it was a different set of scales, so it may be that she's gained a little bit.
Just a quick one. I am currently giving DD her last feed as a one year old. In a few short hours she will turn 2.
When we started my aim was simply to breastfeed her. Then 3 months. Then six. Now I have no goals we just do it and will continue until we stop for whatever reason
That's gorgeous BG, what a fantastic achievement!
Congrats BG! and happy birthday to your little girl.
Day feeds are a bit wierd at the moment, my LO will come off and wipe her tongue and look up at me as if i have done something to the milk. She is on-off a lot more which is not so good cos i've got a bit of nipple sensitivity happening too. Night feeds are fine though. We were kinda cutting them down (mutually) but if she is not getting as much during the day i don't want nights to stop. Just going with the flow and seeing what happens
