Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Just wanted to say a big congratulations to Mel on reaching 3 months of exclusively breastfeeding Miss S. It is a fantastic achievement and I am so proud of you!
Also, Happy 3 months to Miss S! :D
Thanks sterla  xxxxx
Yay for three months! well done babe!
You're awesome Mel :D
3 months Congrats!!!! Awesome achievement!
mumof2 - Thats good news!
Well done Mel for 3 months of feeding :)
Girls how many feeds should an almost 6 month old be having? I have noticed that over the past 3 days we have dropped to 6 and if we are lucky 7 feeds within a 24 hour period. She is also have morning and night solids. Is this enough feeds to keep my supply up at a decent level? I have also stopped taking motilium to see how I go.
Congrats Mel!
If that's what she wants Is, and all looks fine with her, then that's probably fine! Watch the wet nappies
just want to winge
it's too cold, and i am sick of getting my boobs out. it doesn't help that there is not much in them so bub is getting frustrated and comes off a trillion times. there is not enough to be able to feed her to sleep. so now i have no tricks to get her to sleep. i don't know what to do when she is banging trying to get in when i know they are empty and she is not interested in drinking cows milk the last few days (she was taking it for a week or so).
i always loved feeding but its just bloody hard at the moment and not working and not much i'm doing is helping.
ugh, ok i think i am good now. cheers
I bet you're exhausted HotI, I know I was. Much harder being pregnant when you've got an older child as well. I hope you can both figure something out sleep-wise.
HotI have you tried her on oat milk?? DD2 turned her nose up to cows milk until after she weaned a few months ago
Thanks MadB and Olive. i bought some oat milk today and will give that a try later.
DS has never drunk any other kind of milk
when he weaned, was it his decision or did he still want bf?
he stopped himself when I was about 10-ish weeks pregnant. I had no milk once starting the ivf drugs, and he finally just gave up I think.
Well we have reached 5 months, I'm feeling quite proud. It is still quite painful and uncomfortable at times but we have fallen into a rhythm and most days I am enjoying it now. Thinking of starting some solids soon as little miss is trying to grab food out of our hands lol.
Mumof2boys - Well done to you!! You have been so determined to breastfeed, you have done so so well.
I have also reached a milestone today. My daughter is 6 months therefore I made my goal of 6 months breastfeeding. I am so darn proud lol! Just going to keep going and see how far it takes us, but just so glad I reached my goal.
Congrats to both of you!!!!
I have longed for years to be able to post in here and at last I qualify! :D
We have been BFing for 2 months and 3 days and I am so happy. I still have a lot of questions though and still feel so clueless about the whole thing, so very thankful for this thread!
My first question is: do you eventually stop leaking? During the day I have to use disposable breastpads as I leak through Maz's ones. Around when do things settle down? When do you stop leaking from the other breast when you let down? Will I ever be breastpad-free LOL?
My second question is: when do your breasts stop being really tender? Do they stay sore for as long as you breastfeed?
Thanks so much :)
Congrats to both of you - both are an inspiration to me!!! Well done xx
LIG - welcome lovely!! I don't know the answers to your questions but I'm still leaking like you and still tender and DD3 is 3.5 months :)
Congrats Isadora, I'm looking forward to the 6 mth milestone.
LIG - for me personally I am no longer leaking during the day. I occasionally leak at night but not often. I still leak on the opposite side during letdown though. My breasts are still very tender. Dd is 5 months old.
HotI how did the oat milk go?
Quick question - how true is it that babies should be double their birth weight by 4 months? Cos I definitely won't get there with Sahti lol. Just did her fortnightly weigh, she is now 5.7kg, so up 200g in 2 weeks, same gain as last time I weighed her.
So she definitely won't be at 7kg in another two weeks.
I don't think I'm stressing quite so much over her weight, she's very much like dd1 in her looks, both had silent reflux and both are slow to gain weight. Dd1 was 6.1kg at 4 months (born 3.95kg) and nothing was ever said to me about her weight gain cos she was formula fed I suppose? So that was only just over 2kg gain for her in 4 months and dd3 has already done that! So just gotta relax I suppose (though I find it hard with sterla's super milk kicking my milks butt lol)
And yes yes, I shouldn't compare.... But it's so hard. Human nature I suppose?
Mrs Nerd Burger: Gosh I hope it's not 4 months! Sammy's almost six months and there's no way he'd be 8.4 kg's in a week! I'm really hoping for 7.2! He's always been slow to gain weight (MCHN's call him a ''plodder'') but he's consistent. He always gained 90-120g per week. I did stress about it, but now it doesn't bother me, it's just him. There are babies in my baby buddy group who are 10kgs!
LIG: My boobs aren't tender anymore, but they do leak at night, depending on how often/if the boy wakes to feed. The other side still leaks a bit during let down but not enough for me to really notice it, I generally just do a bit of air drying after each feed and don't worry about breast pads during the day.
Anybody else have temperamental 6month olds? Some days Sammy is all about the boobs, other days it's so hard to get him to stay attached for more than 20 seconds, he's rolling away and blowing raspberries on my nipple and chewing on his hands, and my shirt, anything but feeding!
i think thats a myth mel! DD1 was born 3.3kg, was about double at 6 months and was only just 8kg at 12 months
HotI you can only try!
Mel I think if she is gaining weight consistently you shouldn't worry. She's doing fine. I think every bub different. Dd is a clear exception to the consensus that breastfed bubs are smaller than formula fed ones because her weight is off the charts lol.
Your lo is still putting on weight, she's doing great, keep reminding yourself of that.
No! 6 mnths - just relax! Even then it's only a guideline - some double it quickly and some take ages. 200g in 2 weeks at that age is spot on
DD just managed to double by 6 months. DS... 10 months :)
Congrats Isadora and M2boys!
Cool thanks guys :)
My next "proud" goal is to get to 6 months. Fingers crossed!
The ticker does not lie.. Thanks everyone for the support before she was born and in those early days.
When I had Diva I wanted to feed her for 2 years.. never imagined that I would make it.
Now to look at weaning so I can look after myself for a bit, lol!
Congratulations on making 2 years!
I havent posted in this thread for a very long time but I'm always reading.
I'm having a bit of a sad day, although I know I should be happy that's its turned out this way and the kids have weaned naturally.
Dd is 2 next week and hasn't fed for almost 2 weeks, ds who is 3 and 3 months has drastically cut down in that time too. Last night ds came into my bed after a bad dream around 11pm and asked feed about 3 times during the night but would have one such then say it tasted funny. He skipped his morning feed which he has never done and he hasn't asked again.
I know I couldnt feed 3 children and they needed to wean. I'm just sad that that time with them is now over. I'm going to miss having that closeness with them.

It's aways bittersweet, even when you know it's worked out for the best.
Congrats on feeding for so long - it won't be long till you've another little one at the breast
loulabelle- well done, hun. You did so well and that sort of time frame is an incrdeible feat! I understand it must be very bittersweet but know that that special bond that you created with them will always be there
wow inertia congrats on 2 years!!! That is awesome!!
Loulabelle - I can't even begin to tell you how amazing you are for feeding that long! You are freakin awesome!!!
I have a question - when is the best time to pump?
Inertia, I missed your post. Well done on 2 years, hun! You have done amazing
Hey, Mel, I like to express at about 2 or 3 in the afternoon.
How often would you feed a 7 month old? I'd feed on demand, except the "demand" part of the equation is missing. So I was feeding every 3 hours or so, and whenever she cried, but that doesn't seem to be enough, and I'm worried that not enough milk is the cause of her constipation issues. Today I am offering hourly, and she takes it every time. Will she ever grow out of the frequent short feeds? I'm a little forgetful, and know I'll forget to offer it that frequently all the time.
In other news, lactation cookies. Nom nom nom nom
Does anyone have any tips or advice on dealing with biting. DD has started biting me a lot, basically every feed. She doesn't have any teeth yet so I shudder to think what it'll be like once she does. Currently when she bites me I tell her no that hurts mummy and then once she does it again I take her off and tell her no booby whilst she's biting. At 5 months she just thinks it's a big game and we're just having lots of not finished feeds. So please any tips would be great.
