Yep, i agree with Kmn. When my LO did it, i would go back to what i did right at the start- c-hold under the boob with one hand and support bub with the other, hold her in tight so she could just feed and wasn't falling back.
I'm having a really tough time breastfeeding at the moment. It's really starting to get me down :(
aw, that's no good m2boys  Is it somethign in particular?
No nothing really in particular. Just dealing with the pain of her bad latch. I also have some emotional issues when it comes to breastfeeding that I struggle with but don't really understand. I've been coping ok with those issues with dd but I have really started to struggle the last couple of weeks. On top of that I can't get her into any kind of routine at all. She won't nap at all during the day. She just wants to cluster feed all day. I'll feed her, get her to sleep, try to put her down, instantly she will awake screaming and won't stop until I put her back on the boob. If I stay very still she will sleep in my arms for about 20 mins. But she will wake up shaking and screaming until I give her boob again. My whole day revolves around her being attached. I race around in her short happy blocks trying to get minimal housework done. My boys get barely any attention and as a result I am frustrated and just having a hard time.
Oh wow that sounds really rough!
Do you have a sling or carrier you can use?
Lol several, I'm a bit of a carrier addict. Unfortunately I can't carry her around in them all day. I have a really bad neck and shoulders and I just don't cope with any more than an hour. Also she won't feed in the carrier, I have enough trouble getting her to latch normally, it's impossible in the carrier.
damn. sorry, that was my best suggestion. DD is also not such a carrier fan around the house - she's fine if I carry her in my arms though :wall: But sh'es not nearly as fussy as your little one anyway. She will only feed lying down in bed  I guess they all have their little quirks. Some are more difficult for us though, that's for sure.
believe missed this thread i was wondering why it was so quiet
mumof2boys DD went through a stage similar to this and now its just at night in bed it was horrible but it passed
9 Months and 4 days here :leap: =]
i haven't physically "felt" the let down with DD for quite some time - i know there is milk (her milky smile tells me there is lol) - but i haven't had that sensation - nor the need for breast pads - for ages - until this week! and NOT for DD
twice this week i have heard new born babies cry - both times over the phones at work - and both times i got a let down! i am SOOOOOOOOOOO glad i had a jacket on each time - i didn't leak much, but wow! weird!
2 years 2 months for us today - and no signs of weaning (she's had two drinks since we got home three hours ago, and will have another before bed very soon)
Great work girls!
BG, that's so weird! Lucky for the jacket.
i am 16 weeks pregnant and my belly button has already popped (my DD used to push it out wth her foot when i was pregnant with her so it was already mangled). this morning i was feeding my DD and she kept kicking my arm so i put her down on the floor. she came up again and was lifting at my top and saw my bellybutton. she poked it and then l leant over as if she was going to attach. i think she thought i had grown an extra nipple! oh dear, i laughed so hard.
That's hilarious!
Hahahaha!!!!
Thanks for the giggle!
Mumof2boys how are things today? I hope there has been some improvement. You have done so well to stick to bfeeding good on you!!
Girls I have just spent two weeks in beautiful Bali. I worried about breastfeeding and what the reaction to it would be by the locals. I took a cover with me and all. Well turns out the Balinese are so comfortable with public feeding and I didnt even bother with the cover. I saw a few local mum's with their babies in slings and one boob hanging out feeding the baby. I fed everywhere and anywhere, no one blinked an eye. I fed on the beach, poolside on the sunbaking chairs, restaurants, in the taxi, you name it. I was so impressed. And now we are home and I really dont feel as comfortable feeding in public. I head to the babies room. Isnt it crazy that I feel this way within my own country!? Its so dissapointing. Does anyone else notice this or am I just being silly?
That's great!
Too bad you feel that way. Any insight into why? Perhaps because of the reactions adn opinions of some people close to you?
I'm aware that some people are uncomfortable with breastfeeding, and know that some people might think it's inappropriate or whatever, but I don't cover up. That said, my kids have both been pretty bad about not wanting to feed when out and about anyway :wall: Which is a bloody nuisance and another issue entirely.
Thanks Isadora, good days and bad days here. I've had a bit of a realisation as to what I'm really struggling with so I am working on that.
Glad you had a good time in Bali, jealous here. Personally I don't cover up, the only time I really feel uncomfortable is if there is a pack of teenage boys nearby. I don't know why but I'm a bit more self conscious then. Piper is no good out in public either though MadB. We've had a few massive screaming matches in resturants and shopping centers because she's hungry but refuses to feed. Now that is embarrassing.
Breastfeeding quote of the week from Miss 3, who hasn't been breastfed for over two years.
(very serious voice) "Mum, can I pwease have some of your 'licious bweasts? They're really yummy."
Love to know where she got that from, they're not 'breasts' in this house, they're boobies!
Ohhh that's so gorgeous :heartbeat:
Sent from my iPhone so forgive the speelung misstacks ;)
That's really lovely!
Just a quick question, ladies :) I feel like I just haven't had enough milk for my little lady tonight. She sucks and sucks and rarely swallows and then gets fidgety. I have been feeding her frequently, but I was wondering how long it takes for your breasts to fill up properly after a feed. I recall something like 45 minutes but thought I would check. Is there anything I can do to help my supply in the evenings? I would really like to give her a good feed before bed, but seldom feel that I do.
You're doing the right thing. She is having the 3-month-old-eat-you-out-of-house-home-and-boobies growth spurt. There's lots of threads here with the same thing - I know that I called the ABA because I thought something wierd was going on! Feed her frequently and in a day or 2 all will be well again!
I've been thinking about this for a while now, but lately it's been getting to me - DS doesn't settle on the boob :( He only settles when he's swaddled and I feed him lying down, it just makes me sad cos I miss how he used to snuggle in and wrap his arms around me. He's way too active now, wriggling around and kicking my arm away, and launching himself on and off. When he's tired and I try to feed him to sleep unswaddled he gets really unhappy, he'll launch himself off then look shocked and burst into tears, I don't want to force him to stay on :( When he's swaddled and I feed him he's asleep in a few seconds. His wake up feeds are always active, but that's totally fine.
I was talking to a lady yesterday who was feeding her 11 month old (asleep) DD, and she said ''it's great how they always fall asleep when you feed them, it always settles them'' and I'm there holding my DS who has big bruised tired eyes and is frantically wriggling about :( The only way I can feed him to sleep without the swaddle is if DH walks with him for 10-15 minutes first. He won't settle with just the swaddle, it's gotta be swaddle plus feed, and I prefer to feed him to sleep cos that way I know he's eating (he's always been a little underweight) and I like to have that quiet time with him.
Will he calm down again as he gets older? Should I hold him tighter or resign myself that a blanket is now part of breastfeeding?
Sometimes it's a phase kitfaeie, but some kids are just like that. Mine won't feed when out and about, for eg. My DD will only feed lying down in bed at home :wall: I also like to feed to sleep because it's the only way she will feed! It is a real nuisance when they stop feeding to sleep. Some do it much earlier than others.
LIG - Cluster feeding can make you feel very empty, but you always make milk. Sometimes at the end of the day when we're tired or a bit dehydrated, letdown can be slower.
How old is your lo kitfaerie I'm on my phone so I can't see tickers. I only ask because that is so my dd (6 months old) right now. She has started bouncing whilst feeding, and kicking and moving about. Not only do my nipples not like being stretched in that fashion lol but she rarely falls asleep feeding now. She only falls asleep during night feeds where she is swaddled. It's hard because she is so used to feeding to sleep but now she just won't settle whilst feeding.
Kitfaerie - Too much going on maybe? I guess also as they get older they just dont fall asleep on the boob as easily.
MadB - I just feel like they dont make a deal out of breastfeeding in Bali as its the norm, whereas we seem to be a bit more prudish about it here which makes me feel uncomfortable.
How would I know if my baby is weaning? She is 7 months old now. I dont know if its that there is too much going on, but she just does not seem interested in breastfeeding anymore. She wont latch on firmly as she usually does, she has a 'yeah i guess but cant really be bothered' latch which involves just hanging off the nipple, yeah not pleasant. She slips off very easily due to her weak attachment. She cries when I try attach her. Bit she is devouring solids like no other. Not too sure what this is and what she wants?
bit early for weaning Is. They do go through periods of disinterest, though, so maybe just keep offering but keep it casual.
Yeah, it should be the normal thing to do :dunno: we're a bit strange and hung up on it, hey?
How much "should" she been feeding at 7 months? She only really wants it first thing in the morning, twice during the day before naps and then at bedtime. I also wake her at 9.30 for a dreamfeed and I am up at 3am for a feed.
that's probably plenty. It should be ok to follow her lead. many babies at this age will only have 4-6 feeds. The amount they take per feed can vary a great deal from baby to baby. they all generally get abou tthe same amount, but some will take it in 4 feeds and others in 12.
Mines one of those babies that take it in 12. Though she is more interested in biting my nipple than feeding, she still wants to be attached all day lol. I must admit Isadora that sometimes wonder if dd is losing interest, she wants to be attached but then she just fusses when I do attach her. But as this is the longest I have breastfed for and I clearly remember my boys going through fussy periods with their bottles I am taking it as a stage and she'll be interested again.
Thanks for your reassuring words as usual MadB :)
Mumof2 - Thats exactly how I feel. Do they just lose interest? My MIL tells me that my DH was a real booby baby and only really wanted breastmilk and didnt care for food, so she fed him till 2. But I feel like my baby prefers solids at the moment. She has upped her solids to 3 times per day and has little finger food snacks now and then. And she has demanded this so I have followed suit. Its hard to know hey!!!
Hey guys, first time posting in here :D
Isadora, that is our exact routine with breastfeeding. DS seems quite content with the amount he gets, he does have solids twice daily and snacks on fruit or bikkies occasionally.
DS won't feed to sleep, he has his night feed at around 6:00 then I just lay him down with his teddy, sing him a song then he usually puts himself to sleep. I used to love it when he fell asleep on the boob, was the cutest thing!!
Welcome Eza!
I just asked the question on a fb breastfeeding page and people are questioning why so many solids at this age. Is it really too much to have 3 solids meals at 7 months? I am just following her lead and she gets antsy until she gets it.
Most 7 month olds probably wouldn't be having that much, no. It can be an issue if you're pushing the solids over milk (at this age they really need the milk more). But I think you're best qualified to judge whether it's ok or not. If you feel she needs more milk, you could try cutting back on food (though it doesn't sound like she'd be too happy with that :p)
DD's a little older than your DD2 and she might eat maybe 1 tablespoon of food per day (she snacks whenever I do, but doesn't really consume much). At this age DS would have been having considerably more than that (though still not a great deal).
I have thought about cutting back, but I doubt she would allow it as she cries when I am 5 mins late with offering it to her haha! I know my first DD was loving her milk at this age, she definately didnt have this much, not even at 12 months if I can remember correctly! I think this little one is just different...bit of a foodie.
Well we have reached 6 very long months... I am quite proud
Awesome effort!
Yay!! Awesome effort!
:happydance:
Brilliant m2boys! How are you celebrating? Something nice for yourself?
