Had my preadmission interview with the hospital today, they seemed so excited when they asked if I had breastfed my first and I said I still was hehe. We have had 6 nights now without feeding overnight so are down to just the one feed a day in preperation for number two, very proud of how well my little lady has been sleeping without her access-all-hours-mummy-dummy, might have switched to backrubs earlier had I known it would only take two nights before she was sleeping through... 4 nights through in a row is a super record for her.
76 Days till my Due Date!
Not to mention 62 Days till Christmas.
69 Days till New Year.
73 Days till my Birthday!!
Anddddd just for fun... I have been breastfeeding for 951 days :)
OMG i just realised 2moro ive been breastfeeding for a whole year
Well done Jellyfish and TripleJ - you are both real inspirations :D
Big congrats to Jellyfish & Triple J, awesome effort :)
Ladies I just wanted to pop in and announce that we have finished breastfeeding. It has been almost 2 weeks with no booby. After stopping motilium a couple of months back, my supply dropped and slowly dwindled to not much at all. I offered her cows milk in a sippy cup almost 2 weeks ago and she has not looked back. Not once has she demanded to be breastfed. I did not have any engorgement issues what so ever....which was a huge indicator to me at just how low my supply had become. I was literally able to stop cold turkey. The transition has been so smooth, bub hasnt whinged once and I did not feel sad. It felt just right. The only downside is, she has gained a HUGE amount of weight in these two weeks....I am sure she has almost doubled lol. I feel like I deprived her for so long and she did not thrive as well as she could have. Mind you, I am glad I breastfed as long as I could, it was a challenge for me and I passed :) Thanks to all of you lovely ladies for your support, especially Mantaray, MadB and my sept baby buddies :)
Isadora  well done, hun. You made a fantastic effort, great job  Enjoy the next stage of your journey together :)
Hi everyone :)
Isadora-congratulations on your bfing journey. When dd weaned, I never even thought about the fact I had no engorgement either....wow.
My ds is 5 weeks old and we are breastfeeding and bottle feeding ebm as dh is the sahd. I bf my dd for 6/7 months until she weaned when I fell pregnant and then I expressed for another few months before my supply ran out and we switched to formula. My plan with ds is to feed until at least 12 months-I really want to do this.
Right now my milk seems to have settled and my boobs are starting to feel less full but Im pretty sure it's just that everything is settling down. I am expressing more than ds needs and he seems full and content after bf's and is feeding 3 hourly during the day. At night he feeds twice and then again around 6am but he goes to sleep on the boob easily so I don't think he is taking a full feed. I've only just started getting him to take both sides, I've always offered both but until this week he's only taken one side.
I really look forward to getting to know you all :)
My DD is 6 months today, which means we have been exclusively breastfeeding for 6 months!!! Nothing other than my breastmilk has passed her lips - I am so happy and feel very lucky that I have been able to do this for her. She has absolutely thrived on my breastmilk too - a massive 9.18kg at 6 months :o. Soon (when she's recovered from her cold) we will start on the fun, messy journey of BLW!
Yay for 6 months today - and here's to the next 6 months and more! :D
I weaned the baby, without really trying. I was only feeding him if he woke up at night time and for several nights in a row he didn't wake up. So, no more breastfeeding. I think it actually made the wait for surgery the other day easier not harder, I can't imagine having him climbing all over me smelling like milk for hours on end, he would have been driven nuts.
So that's 15.5 months for this baby, 14 for the last one and 9 for my first. That's a lot of my life taken up by breastfeeding.
He still climbs up on me and sticks his hand down my top when he's thirsty, he's been doing that for months and until he actually starts talking I don't think that habit is going to go away!
Well dd is 9 months old today so we have been feeding for 9 months. We're on a 2 bottles a day now though, but she is still having about 4-5 breastfeeds in 24hrs as well. I am honestly amazed that we have made it as far as we have. Quick question though ladies. DD can only fall asleep on the boob. Even if she wakes 10 minutes after a feed she has to have boob to resettle. She just can't settle without it. She will just scream and scream if I try rocking, patting or cuddling her. Is this something she will grow out of?? Because I am just a little worried on what's going to happen when I start to wean.
Mo2b - My DD used to always need the breast to get to sleep, but over time she began to come off and settle without it. Some days she will still fall asleep at the breast, but she doesn't need it now.
The No Cry Sleep Solutions has some ideas on slowly moving from boob only settling to other methods. If you are continuing to breastfeed though, i would stick with feeding to sleep if it works, cos rocking etc sucks compared to feeding to sleep.
The last few days in the morning after i feed DD, she has come off the breast and then given me a kiss on the cheek. It is so cute, kind of like a 'thanks, Mum'. Tonight, she had a feed, and then gave my chest a quick kiss when she was finished. It makes me wonder though if one day she will just kiss and no feed. I am 7 months pregnant now, and not really sure what is happening with my milk, i know there is still something there but not sure if it changing to colustrum yet.
Yay Isadora. I'm glad to hear the transition was easy for you both. Sometimes weight gains vary a lot at different times, so don't count yourself out :)
HotI DS switched to a quick kiss when he weaned
m2boys, well done to you too! They do get over it with time, though it seems hard to imagine right now. My DS was the same and yet by 12 months he wouldn't feed to sleep any more except when very, very tired during the day. Actually made life a lot harder :) DD is starting to go off it a bit now too. ohwell.
You must be busy busy busy stark - are you back at work already? It's great your kids still have a stay at home parent.
Nice work Sterla, must be a very nice feeling.
That is a long time Elf :) I'm pushing 3 years now, all up
Hoti-how cute your dd is doing the kiss. That's adorable.
Elf-you're an inspiration!
Mumof2boys- my dd actually dropped her night just before bed feed before she weaned. She was previously fed to sleep each night. I think they do it on their own when they are ready. That said my ds doesn't feed to sleep other than his overnight feeds and I've been putting him down awake just before bed because he's full and burped and tired.
Madb-yep, been back at work full-time for a few weeks now. Ds is 7 weeks old today. I'm self employed with great staff so have flexibility and am already in a great routine of ebm and I've been ducking home mid afternoon when ds wakes to feed or dh will bring him down for me. Ds doesn't wake and want feeding immediately like dd used to so it makes it easier for us.
Does everyone find they leak on the other side when feeding? I've forgotten how long it lasts? I think with dd it was quite a few months?
Hi ladies. Well, I think DD & I have finished after 22.5 months. This is wayyyy longer than I could have ever expected so I'm pretty pleased. The initial plan was to get to 24 months and see what happens from there, but being pregnant now, it seems I have little milk left and DD just plays and comes on and off. DS gave up when I was 3 months pregnant with DD too, so it seems that's my limit for feeding in pregnancy :) I'm glad for my boobies to be having a little break before #3 gets here in May. :)
Congratulations to you both L! Guess we'll see you back soon ;)
Congratulations Laranna! Same thing happened with me - DS weaned at 22 months when I was pregnant with DD.
Enjoy your time off ;).
Well I'm now a tandem feeding mumma!
Poppy has been great with her feeding and being able to latch despite the engorgement
Well, we're just starting out and things so far have been going really well. I've had a little bit of a cracked nipple on one side, but that's healing nicely and Alex is such a settled cruisy baby it's incredible :)
Looking forward to getting to know you all as time goes by...
I have a question, so I'll give kind of an overview of what we're doing, then see what you girls think :)
Sammy isn't feeding to sleep as much, he feeds then starts to wake up and fuss a bit, so I flip him onto his side and snuggle with him (which is how we co-sleep when that happens) and he drifts off. It takes longer though. We're down to 6 feeds a day from a gazillion. Still feeding overnight, usually once, although he does a every 2 hour wake up about twice a fortnight (oh how I love those nights, pfft).
SO, I'm thinking it's time to move him into his own room. I feel like he's confident and can handle it, and I'm feeling the need for some more space. Plus DH snores and it's waking DS. I did think about moving DH out, but he's capable of objecting more. And he'll stop making me dinner.
The thing is, although Sammy's not feeding to sleep as much during the day, I still feed him back to sleep at night, usually lying down. DH can get him back to sleep, but again it takes longer. And if he wakes before 5 we co-sleep, because experience has taught me that it's the only way he'll go back to sleep and I'm not a starting the day at 5am kind of person. Really not.
So, how do I go about this? I know that I want to do it, but really stuck as to how it happens. Anyone else have a breastfed, still waking at night, sometime co-sleeping bubba in their own room, who's used to feeding to sleep lying down?
Haven't had the experience myself yet Kitfaerie but something I've seen others do is to have a mattress on the floor in bub's room next to bub's bed - somewhere to lay down and feed if necessary or if it's close to morning you can choose whether to use that or bring him in to your room.
Yeah, I'd suggest a mattress on floor. Maybe sleep there together for a while then start leaving him and see how you go.
Random observation for today - so much of the bf-ing promotional stuff I've received say that bf-ing is free...well ok, technically it is, but the extra food I'm scoffing every 5 minutes certainly isn't! I am soooooo hungry at the moment it's quite crazy actually, and considering I'm trying to keep the extra snacking relatively healthy it gets pricey. Oh well, it's a good excuse to eat cherries :)
:wall: Can someone please inform my daughter that she doesn't need to involve her whole body in feeds? She doesn't need to have her hands pinching and pulling, her legs don't have to be moving... In fact, it's better for both of us if she stays calm! Who knew?

If it works, can you please tell my son as well? And add in that trying to crawl away, stand up or climb onto Mummy's head while attempting to stay attached are also no-goers.
(Thanks for the advice about the mattress, gonna give it a shot in the next week or so!)
DD is feeding constantly! Its exhausting and she's not sleeping at night just want boob ALL night I'm stuffed. Doesn't help that I'm pregnant and tired anyway and I worry what I'm going to do when Bub arrives because it won't work having them both in bed there's no room an DD is so rough it'd be unsafe for Bub.
I try taking her off at night and she screams the house down, oh help what have I created!
Hi Ladies!
Em........can I make a suggestion to try and get your DD onto a comforter? Just put it with her and you whenever you feed and hopefully after a while she will hold onto it while also feeding and then gradually become attached to it and that will be the beginning of her being comforted from that rather than the boob? That's the only thing I can think of because you want the BFing relationship with her to continue. Good Luck hun.
I'll second and third and so on the whole not moving around thing while feeding. DS is only 9 weeks old (tomorrow) and has already taken to kicking the bed since his legs touch it when he feeds.
Hey CrankyKitten - how are you going??
Our BFing journey is going really well. DS is only doing 1 or 2 wakeups overnight though (please don't throw things at me!) and I thought my boobs would be rock hard and killing but they've adjusted really well. I got scared there wasn't enough milk but of course there is as he is sleeping and feeding happily but I'm able to express fairly large amounts (over 150mls) each time so I would guess my milk has just settled. To minimise the number of EBM bottles he gets a day DH has been bringing him to me at work to feed which is working out really well too. I am just loving BFing again - it rocks.
All going well if a little hot and sticky. Alex cluster feeds between 5pm and 8 or 9pm then sleeps till about 1 or 2am or so, which means if I go to bed shortly after 9 I get a decent sleep too :)
I seem to be completely unable to express any more than a few ml at once though - I'm not overly fussed as no plans on going back to work or anything for a while, but it would be nice to be able to build up a bit of a stash for later if I want to go out. Will keep trying now and then I guess...
The ABA website has a new look! Australian Breastfeeding Association
it's sw@nky, isn't it?
Em! You poor thing. IT could be an age/developmental thing, though I know she's been like that most of the time anyway, hasn't she? Do you get help from your partner at night? Sounds like he's going to have to take her on once the baby is there anyway  I hope you can find some time to get some rest
I pumped 250mls this morning, 125mls each side, for comfort! That was after Miss P had her feed, no wonder she can't drain them
Madb: yep she's been like this most of the time she's just ramped it up and I guess I notice it more now I'm pregnant. DH doesn't help overnight so I'm on my own. But he does take her for a drive when he gets home from work if it's not to late so I can have some time out.
Random observation while I was shopping for tops yesterday - why is it that most of the tops in major stores that are sold as "breast-feeding tops" are also designed to accomodate a bump? I mean, ok my belly is still a little flabby, but baby out and needing access for feeds means I don't still have a watermelon under my t-shirt!
I don't know, but they are working for me at the moment cos i have a big bump and still breastfeeding my LO.
See, that's where they need both! Some for you, and some for me that don't leave oodles of floppy fabric around my midsection and somehow manage to constrict the girls at the same time :)
just dropping in here for a little woo hoo - we've now been BF for two and a half years (and one day!).
so happy to have made this point. some days it's only one or two feeds (morning and night), sometimes more. DD was sick a couple fo weeks ago so feed were pretty much all she had for three days. the engorgement in the days afterwards meant it was ME asking her to feed!
Hey just wanted to pop in and say DD is 10 month old and we're still breastfeeding. Although she is having 1-2 bottles a day, she's still have 4 or 5 breastfeeds as well. I am in two minds now, I am so ready to wean. We have never had a pain free feed, ever and my period recently returned and ever since my nipples are even more sensitive. Plus my aversion is getting pretty much at crisis point these days. Every feed I am just waiting for the first oppurtunity to pull her off. On the other hand though, I am so close to my 12 month goal now... so very close I can almost touch it. So I don't know what to do... regardless I am glad to say we have reached 10 months... it just sounds like so much longer than 9 lol.
Just popping in now I'm back into bfing land after our 20 month odd break.
I'm a lot less leaky this time around, but right in the midst of that awful milk-just-came-in-two-days-ago engorgement. Sleeping last night was really unpleasant, since I could only lie on my back and got quite uncomfortable. My milk came in a bit quicker this time too.
DD2 is feeding beautifully and only takes a few minutes to finish a bf. :o After DD1, who took about 45 mins each time as a newborn, I am in shock. She's got heaps of wet and/or dirty nappies so I know she's getting plenty. But I'm not getting any extra TV time! This time I'm not really paying any attention to when and how often she bfs, just whenever she opens her eyes and starts looking at me. She hardly cries (well, I guess she doesn't have much of a chance) and I'm using a sling atm constantly.
She can take a couple of goes to attach properly, but that is probably because her tiny mouth is currently dwarfed by my poor exploding bbs.
