Hi Ladies :)
AF has decided not to show this month (came back June and have had 3 regular cycles. I did a test yesterday and it came up Negative. DS has been feeding alot more the last few weeks, would that affect my cycles? It's driving my nuts!
I think it can be very irregular early on, yeah
MadB you were right I tested today and BFP!
wowee!
setting up an online pyschic business as we speak
Hoping to join back in here again, I had my little girl 9 days ago & so far things are going well.
She feeds 3-4hrly overnight & 2-4hrly during the day. She is such a easy baby compared to my other 2.
Congrats Em :)
Well welcome back to the thread ~Cheshire~ and congrats on your new little girl :)
em- Congrats on the BFP!
Im pretty darn proud to announce, that yesterday we made the 2 year BFing mark....2 entire years :o can not believe it and it would have been MUCH harder with out all the advice, tidbits, cheer ons and pick me ups of the Belly Belly girls
Wonderful Achievement! :leap:
Congrats LD that is a fantastic achievement!
we reached 11 months last week :) yeehaaaa go me there is no way i thought i would get this far :)
Awesome, congrats ladies on reaching your goals.
Em - Congratulations on your bfp!!!
AFM, my bubba is still breastfeeding, even though I dont have much after stopping motilium. I think its also just comfort for her. But we are down to only three feeds during the day, breakfast, arvo nap time, bed time and then I get in a dreamfeed. She has been sleeping much better at night, touch wood, hoping she can keep it up as much as possible. Also AF has just returned, I knew it was bound to happen once she dropped feeds a couple of months back. Anyway I made almost 18 months with no AF which was wonderful!!! :)
Congrats LD, awesome achievement!
We are still here, 2 and a half years eek! When does breastmilk change into colostrum again for the new baby? Curious about how DD will react to that haha.
Just a little vent really... bubs and I have thrush. I have had really painful attachment for the last couple of days and a throbbing in one of my boobs. It was painful but I didn't think it was that bad (I've had worse thrush infections) but poor bub, she has thrush all through her mouth, a horrible, horrible fungal nappy rash. She's teething and has a cold. She is so miserable. She doesn't want to drink from my thrush boob really at all. This journey has been such a hard slog for us, it's just been one thing after the other. Some days its just too much.
Amelia is 21 months and we are still going. At times she is very demanding, during the night she comes into bed and says, "doodor mummy peeeeaaaaase!!" doodor is her word for boobie. I pretend to be asleep lol, can't handle the night time feeds with the all day sickness atm. So really she has a feed in the morning, one to go down for her daytime nap and sometimes one before bed at night.
Mumof2boys - It really has been a long road for you. The thrush sounds nasty, and just another thing you dont need atm on top of a cold. I hope you can get rid of it fast, I'm sure you know all the tricks with having had it before. Take care of yourself too.
Laranna - 21 months that is awesome well done.
Hi girls, I'm not on BB much these days, but just wanted to share my BIG WOOHOOOO!!!!
I've been EXCLUSIVELY BREASTFEEDING my 2nd little girl for just over 4months now!!!!! :leap: this is a huge thing for us as with my DD1, although she was always breastfed, we also used formula and EBM top ups for the first 4mths of her life due to various feeding problems in the beginning and low milk supply, low weight gains etc.......
So I'm SUPER STOKED to be able to say we exclusively have breastfed................
And DD1 has one or two feeds a day so we're tandem feeding.... never would have thought!! hehe
Congrats Shanti!! That's fantastic!!
So I need to have a bit of a...vent? Im so sick of justifying my decision to breastfeed. I'm tired of know it alls... One in particular lately... 'your milk is sh*t, have you had it tested to make sure it has everything he needs?' or the other one I keep getting is 'he should be having bottle too, you can't breast feed only, it's not enough, every baby is being bottle (formula) and breast fed by this age'
My DS is ten months and he is as healthy and happy as can be!! I'm so sick of some people and their opinions!! Thanks for listening...
The pressure to bottle feed is enormous. Women are harassed and badgered almost from the minute they give birth to formula feed. You are doing great. You might have to tell these people that you just can't and won't discuss it with them any more
Jules i got those comments as well & the only got worse once she reached 12 months.
Thanks girls, I just think its bizarre that they assume mothers that breastfeed judge them for choosing to bottle feed yet in my experience I have only ever been judged by bottle feeding mums. I think everyone should just do whatever works for them and their bub and mind their own business. I just had to let off some steam. DS and I worked hard to get breastfeeding underway and are both still happy so why change?! He's definately not being starved!!
Jules the comments i got really annoyed me & you should have heard the comments i got when they found out she still had booby overnight or i fed her to sleep.
She was 1 & so what if she wanted to be fed to sleep or still had boob overnight, it's not like it was interfering with their life.
I could never understand why they would judge me.
I still feed my 15 month old overnight ... boobies are like some kind of highly effective sedative :)
This is the longest I've breastfed. I don't run into much anti-breastfeeding - but then I live in the country, and they make like the cows out here, there's always someone with a baby on the boob at the local kindergym. However I'm also quite antisocial and don't get out much and the last few months I haven't been feeding him during the day. Did get clucky looks from oldies at the cafes we have lunch at when I was feeding him and he was around a year old.
He's booked in for surgery at the end of this month so I'm procrastinating weaning him (as in, I'm not doing anything to stop him) until then, because I'm sure boobies make you feel better when they let him out of the OR.
Jules - I used to just say that I'm weaning him onto lasagne rather than bottles - it seemed to work!
Hey everyone, just wanted to join in for some breastfeeding support.
I'm onto baby #3 now. Have breastfed all three. Stopped at 8 months with my first, 9 months with my second (a lot of supply issues with her in the end) and my third is 3 months and it's been hard work this time. Her tiny mouth had a lot of trouble latching, coupled with "lazy sucking" which destroyed my nipples, followed by weeks on end of thrush, topped with mastitis. We had a few weeks of good feeds and then she started refusing one breast.
MCHN and I are sure it's to do with her neck muscles so have been working on tummy time and getting her strength up which has improved her feeding heaps!
Our aim is 12 months and then we'll see how we go from there. I could go longer but I know I won't have much support from those around us (it's the reason I weaned DD1 at 8 months!)
Sorry to ramble, will be back tomorrow!
Hi BMCMI!
Sounds like you have had a rough start this time. Great work on sticking with it and getting to 3 months, hope it is smoother from here.
My DD is 18 months old today, and still breastfeeding! :leap: i have her mchn appt on thurs and i think she will have reached 10kg this time. She started as a slow grower, but i just kept offering boob and we stayed exclusive breastfeeding til 6 months and then added in solids. She is strong and healthy and bright.
Hi BMCMI :)
congrats on reaching 18 months Hot1.
Bambi is 17 days old & back over her birth weight, she gained 400g in 2 weeks :D
Just got my information pack from the hospital and it had a little booklet from the ABA/Queensland Health. In the back it had a little section for combacks and I thought this one was brilliant so had to share...
"Are you still feeding?"
"Yeah, she's probably got another 10minutes to go"
"When do you plan to stop feeding?"
"Oh, in about 5 minutes"
Obviously only work if you are feeding at the time but still made me chuckle. It was a section about breastfeeding to 12 months and beyond.
Well done on 18 months HotI!
Cheshire, great news on your little one being over her birth weight.
Hi guys :) Wanted to join in. Looking forward to hearing about all of your BFing experience and share mine with you too.
We had a surprisingly rough start to bf but we are going strong now. My only bugbear is that we are still using a nipple shield. At first it was out of necessity, but now it seems DD has a bit of a reliance on it and won't take my nipple without it. I'm not really sure how I can go about getting her off it (if at all). I try her on my boob without it at the start of most feeds, and sometimes midway if she's particularly hungry. Any ideas?
PZ - wish I had some advice for you with the nipple shields, but my DS was exactly the same. We got to a point where he just didn't seem to recognise my nipple as being something to go in his mouth, he'd only accept the shields. But... we did still breastfeed successfully for 22 months. He only weaned because I was pregnant and my milk supply basically disappeared. So, it can be done in the long term :).
Oh wow Sterla!! That's awesome :) I think that's going to be how DD and I are...she too does not seem to 'get' what to do with the nipple anymore. My supply is awesome and her gains are great, so it's not actually causing any issues. Do you mind if I ask a few questions? How did you find public BFing with the shield? Sometimes it can be really frustrating when I'm out, hungry baby, and fumbling with the NS case, licking the shield and sticking it on  It also is a bit messy for me, milk kind of leaks and breaks the suction. What about now, are you feeding with the shield again, or can it be different for subsequent children? The issues were with DD, she was born with a squashed head and had trouble opening her mouth, the LC and midwives all said my nipples were fine.
Oh goodness. She's started slapping. I don't think she does it on purpose, but the other night she was swinging her arm up and down (while almost asleep, mind you!) and hitting my boob every time. I tried to catch her at and hold it, but she didn't like me doing that so I had to let her slap me  Didn't hurt, just got annoying :p The pinching hurts, though. Mum keeps joking she's going to report DH to the authorities

PZ: I didn't feed in public heaps when he was really small, but as he got older I worked out a system. What I did was kept the shield in a case in my handbag, so it was always easy to get to. I'd have DS lying on my lap, get my top/bra and everything organised, sometimes even put the shield on under my top if I wanted to be extra discreet - so then all I had to do was lift up my top and get DS on. It took some practice, but eventually I was able to kind of get the shield on and DS on in a quick, swift motion, lol. As for the milk spillage - we had that too. I just put a spit up rag on my lap or wherever I thought the milk might spill. It only got easier as DS got older. Eventually I was able to do it all in the dark or with my eyes closed :).
TeniBear - my little one pinches aswell! Usually when she's exhausted and rubbing at her face she can't keep her hands away!
Nipple shields - I haven't used them but have heard if you let them have the start of their feed using them (so let down and a minute or so afterwards) then remove it and try to feed from the nipple. That way they aren't starving and flustered, usually calmer a few minutes into the feed. Hope that helps!
Teni- DD slapped and pinched from time to time. I found with her instead of stopping/ holding her hand I would tickle her palm down by her side. Sometimes it worked, other times it didnt but it saved me a few slaps
Teni: I get the slapping as well! And pinching oh and now the kicking my other arm with her foot
i get kicked in the face, pinched, scratched, slapped....oh the little boob tyrant haha!
I'm getting slapped/patted while he's sleeping! We co-sleep and usually when DS wants to sleep he'll roll over so his back his to me, but lately he's been turning around and patting my boobs in his sleep! Arghhh!!
Teni- I just reread and realised you werent asking for advice just mentioning it. Sorry!
It's no problem, any attempt at help is appreciated :D I'll try that tonight if she slaps again :)
