yeah, your baby will know when it's 'empty', though it never really is. If it feels full or hard still (and you may have an oversupply in the early weeks) keep offering that side, but otherwise you can switch if she's done.
Thanks girls. Cause yea i knew it was never enpty but have been making sure she drains the side. i havent needed to offer the other side yet but didntwant to be just offering the same side if she was in need of more itms.
DD2 is five mths and still just wants one side. DD1 was having two sides by this age, but I figure if I had twins they'd be having one side each feed. Supply and demand works on each breast.
DD2 has always been such an efficient feeder that if she's wanting more I'm sure she just demands to be fed more often.
Ladies I'm thinking about BF friendly vitamins. I currently take Elevit plus a separate fish oil tablet, and vitamin D as I'm deficient. Is there a better alternative to Elevit? Just curious as to what's out there.
On another note I had my first ever squirting experience! My boob was so full from overnight, DD had a reasonable feed but I still felt full so after 10-15 minutes I popped her back on but she wouldn't have a bar of it, pulled off and I glanced down and it was like a burst pipe.
Is it possible for DD to be done feeding in 5 minutes or less and still only want to feed no less than 3 hourly? This is her latest thing as you know... She's had three really wet MCN's since 6:30am, and it's 1:45pm here. In her fourth nappy now...
im no expert but it sounds as though she's just become very efficient. if her output hasn't changed, she's content & you're demand feeding then it all sou.ds good.
saw my mchn yesterday. dd is now 6.17kg - the nurse said we didnt really need to weigh or measure her because she's "the picture of health" she alao mentioned that's she's obviously in a good pasture she also asked how often she's feeding & i said i had no idea! she replied that's what she likes to hear from a bfing mum with a healthy baby i love having a good mchn - it's a great resource/sounding board if they're the right person.
I'm demand feeding to a point - I try her every three hours if she has not demanded earlier and sometimes when I think she has demanded earlier she just cries when I put her on the boob. Then most of the time if I take her off again after a couple of unsuccessful attempts she seems content. Sometimes she is grizzly after but she won't drink. I don't *think* it is a milk supply issue.
Lol at the suqirting Ladylove. Sounds like you have an effecient feeder there
Sloane sounds like your DD is growing beautifully
I took DD3 to MCHN today and she is growing well, I wasn't concernerd about her weight as the little piggy has been feeding well and growing out of her clothes! All good and her HC was fine which is hwat I wanted to get checked
BF is still going well, I get a little sore still in the evening after her fussy period and cluster feeding from 5pm to about 9pm but then she sleeps until 6ish so I shouldnt complain.
had a breastfeeding brain fart this week as I ordered two lovely knit dresses online, they came look good, fit but I cant breastfeed in them without pulling the dress up to above my boobs Im all for feeding as needed and not needing to be discrete but that might be taking it a bit too far oh well they'll have to wait for next winter
Yes and to be honest once she had mastered feeding she only ever took 8-10 minutes anyway. She's a bit fussy today generally anyway so I was feeling a little distrustful of my boobies.
Does anyone else with older bubs find they have days where they're just not as interested in feeding?
Usually DS will feed quite frequently throughout the day, in addition to his solid meals which are a bit hit and miss about how much gets eaten. But every so often he'll have a day or so where he's just really not that interested, and can go several hours without a bf. Even if offered - he plays around, wriggles to get down and generally puts up a fuss rather than latching on. I'm finding it happens more often when he's just starting on a new skill, but sometimes I wonder whether I should maybe offer a bit more frequently even if he's not showing much interest?
Joining in to the thread! I BF with DS1 and he self weaned around 8months. I was back at work by that stage and travelling so I'm sure that had something to do with it. Would like to get to a year BFing with DS2 if I can!
DS2 is now 4 days old and milk is well and truly in now. He seems to be feeding every 2 hours over the night which is killing me at the moment and having longer stretches of sleep through out the day. Any suggestions On trying to stretch the time out between feeds during the night? I'm sure he'll sort his day/night cycles out soon.
I never found anything to stretch out night feeds at that stage, thankfully it's usually pretty short and just till they flip their days/nights around the right way.
