Hi, my little lady is five days old, the last two days she has decided she won't burp (ok maybe not deliberately lol), but now we are at an impasse. No burping means sore tummy & wind and not sleeping which is not working for any if us. Bub #4 do I've been around for a while & know most burping tricks.... But has anyone got any suggestions ?
Hi lee my DD couldn't get her wind up so was told burp her over your shoulder as it puts a bit of pressure on their tummy and helps get the wind up, otherwise I swear by Gripe Water. Goodluck
I've noticed my dd2 isn't as good at burping as my dd1 was. I try the usual sit them up, support the head and pat the back. Sometimes I will gently push her lower back in and out, that can losen the air a bit. When that doesn't work I put her over my shoulder and pat, sometimes for a while.
If not it's infants friend for me, you can use it from birth.
DD was a very reluctant burper. Daddy was the only one that could get a burb up so he was our gripe water something to do with my overly gentle technique and his more energetic one.
If it gets too late for a burp to come up, a gentle clockwise tummy massage helps the air down
My rotation goes: over the shoulder with pats on the bum and/or jiggling, sitting up with pats on the back, laying on my arm face-down while jiggling/walking around.
This is kind of hard to explain but I'll do my best. The best trick I learnt when they are having trouble burping was to sit bubs on your lap supporting the chin and place your middle finger and thumb on their lower back near the hips and sweep your fingers in towards each other. It makes DS sit up really straight and always produces a burp
Teach her how to burp the alphabet. Make it fun, and she'll happily join in!!
Otherwise, just keeping her upright might do the trick ... back rubs, particularly rubbing upward, back rubs while laying her over your arm on a gentle incline, tummy rubs, and "cycling" her legs can help.
Actually I just remembered, aside from Daddy, what also worked with DD was sometimes as simple as swiftly lifting her up into the air in an upright position. The swift upward movement would encourage a burp.
Thanks everyone! I managed to get two good burps from her with the last feed - yay! Hoping these tips will help keep them coming so we don't have any more sleepless nights!
