just moving to the breastfeeding forum.......
Cloth -
avent
lilypadz
Disposable -
Pigeon - come in gold and standard - my brand of choice
Avent - have little nipple lumps so you look like you're high beaming, the adhesive isn't very effective and they stick out too much for my liking
Johnson & Johnson - like avent only worse
Dove - Like J&J and Avent
HTH.
If allergies are an issue you might be best with cloth, especially after your supply has settled in and you're not so leaky as in the first few weeks - maybe if you put a thread in the nappy forum some of the clothies might have brands they can recommend.
For cloth breastpads google it! There are heaps about.
theres also disana cloth ones as well.
I was using Pigeon, but as shannon said the sticky bits annoyed me too!!
The only ones I liked were rite aid and pigeon... I refuse to wear anything that gives me the saucer look. I never ever used the sticky bits though... rite aid is basically pigeon just $2 cheaper and you get twice as much!
*hugs*
Cailin
i dont use the sticky bits as they never stay in the same spot anyway.....or maybe its just me? hehe
Rite aid would be great value..but they are the ones im allergic too :(
sticky bits are useless. i like the j & j ones but with the ivory quilt. come in pink box. don't bunch up and fold over. quite padded so comfy.
Tommee Tippee do cloth ones too, not too bad but do give you bit of a raised look....but if you'd like I can post you a pair? I have three and don't really use them anymore.
Lilypadz were good except when I took them off all this built up sweat would literally run off them. And they wouldn't stay stuck around the edges of them. Give your boob a nice smooth shape though. They're a bit expensive so I got some off a US ebay shop for about $28 aussie.
I'm using Swaddlebees brand cloth ones that I bought from the WeeWuns online store. They're comfy but not so good if you're a heavy leaker ;)
I just used the ones from Woolworthes i think they are Homebrand. They were great and so much cheaper!
I love the Johnson ones (purple and white box). Yes they have that little nipple indent but I just poke it in and then you can't see it through clothes.
I like the size of them and also that they do not come folded. The Pigeon ones do and the crease in the pad shows through clothing. I also found them itchy.
I don't bother with the sticky back. I never use it.
I found the pigeon breast pads terrific :)
Hi guys
I have been finding the disposable breast pads have been irritating my boobies and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good alternative?
Thanks in advance
Belinda.
There are many different types of cloth breast pads (it's all I used with my first baby). I was extremely leaky and I found them very good. I was lucky in that someone gave me a huge bag of them, but I think you can still buy them through Mother's Direct (google them or find the link on the ABA website).
HTH.
I used Tommy Tippee washable shaped ones and they were OK - just make sure they're rinsed properly so as not to irritate from the detergent. I didn't try any other brands so can't say if they were the best.

You can get avent cloth pads from chemists, or some organic shops have hemp or bamboo breast pads. I just ordered some funky ones from BabyBehinds, which are a cloth nappy company, they stick to your boobs and use pressure to stop the flow (sort of like putting your finger over it to stop the flow). HTH
I've been using the Avent cloth ones too, but they are hard to find. I went to 6 different phamacies before I found one that stocked them.
Who uses them and how long have you been BF?
I have been bf for five months now and dont use them at all , is that normal? I dont leak at all and thought I would leak lol.
Hm I get a let down but it dont come pouring out of the other boob unless I havent fed him for hours and hours!
I wore them til about 4-5,ths with Indah as the letdown would cause other breast to leak... Ofcourse I am using them again now, I have some cloth & some other ones (no idea the type/brand)
Hmmmmmmm all these leaky boobs makes me wonder why i am so different! Wonder if its something to worry about?
No absolutely dont worry, just consider yourself lucky! I was horribly leaky for about 9 months (still having embarrassing over leakage accidents even then) but many of my BFing friends leaked infrequently or not at all.
I should be sponsored by Pigeon breast pads. I've been through boxes and boxes already. It's foul! I have to wear two in the night so just think yourself lucky SOUL!
But wouldnt that mean I dont have enough milk?
No i would've thought it meant your milk had settled and you just have a let down when feeding-- Aren't boobs clever! My bub is only 5 weeks old so I'm hoping it's going to happen for me soon!!
oh ok lmao so once you have been doing it for a while leaking is not nessasary?
I might leak one or two drops in the morning thats it though so I dont use them soul!
august_moon_mum oh fantastic, well I mean fantastic in the way of perhaps it is normal for me. I am sure if I got him to sleep more than an hour at a time then I might leak a little with a big build up.
Yep your not the only one! I have two big boxes practically untouched but I must admit my breastfeeding experience is/was pretty varied. I had an emergency caesar (was originally going to be induced@37wks) as my son had to have an operation as soon as he was born so I had to express and did not BF him until he was 10 days old. Then it was only to a schedule and timeframe according to what he could tolorate. My son was tube fed my EBM and colostrum. Now he is BF during the day and he has FF x3 at night. When my milk came in I never got sore hard or hot boobs etc, and still don't, did you? So I don't use the breast pads but my BF experiences could be why too, although I've always had plenty of milk for Lucas.
I have BF four, including a NICU bub, and I leaked only during the first few weeks, and not all the time even then. So you're quite normal soul, and you should be grateful!!
I am grateful, very grateful infact so darn grateful that I am estatic that I can BF this time!
Soul, I leak sometimes in the morning with the first feed... like this morning..lol. I just hold a cloth nappy over my boob for a few mins. As for breast pads, I use the rite aid ones and yes I use them when I'm out just in case cos I'd be horrified to have wet patches on my boobs!! I don't use them at home at all anymore and in fact have actually stopped wearing a bra at home in the past 2 weeks cos I had a very bad blocked milk duct. This is also when I stopped using breast pads unless I was going out.
oh lmao so true I should wear them out incase too it would be my luck to end up with two perfectly round wet spot on my front! How is everything going anyways? I updated my pic so you could see what phoenix looks like!
Soul I only ever used breast pads to protect my bras from the Lasinoh cream I used in the early weeks. I have never leaked and rarely felt any let down. I managed to BF til 9 months when I got pg again. I really don't think that not leaking is a problem at all - your body is just efficient :)
oh they get fixed before they go off to be printed as my father inlaw is a photographer retired though! He showed me how to get rid of it on the camera but once camera is turned off iut comes back! Not bothering me though as long as they dont come printed out like that!
Oh and we do have a bran new camera, I just havent learnt how to use in perfection yet.
By the way, just beetwen you and me, I cant actually get rid of the red eyes because we are all the spawn of satan! You should see it when we all set our hair alight! lmao
I still need to wear them because I have the occasional leak from the spare boob or if Imran is crying at the shops I might get a let-down. I think I'm a bit of a freak - most women aren't leaky after BF for over a year...
I've been thinking about buying some of these for a while now. It makes me feel terrible when I think of all those little plastic bags (that cover the disposable ones) going into land fill. AND... what a waste of money, to buy something, use it once and then throw it away!
How many pairs do you think I'd need? I do washing every other day, without fail.
Thanks for your help.
Celsie. xoxox
p.s. What types does everyone use and why?
Celsie, I have some...hmm, I think they're avent? Or pigeon, do they do cloth? Anyway, those and some hemp and bamboo ones too. They're great, but I hated the look of these big round circles in my bra.
So, I compromised, cloth for home where I didn't care about the discs, and they're pretty darn comfy, but for when I'm out I used the disposable ones.
Actually, if you were going to be wearing a couple of layers, like a jumper, you could do cloth while out, I'm talking big circles that happened with a bra and tshirt really.
I've been thinking about getting washable breast pads too, but was wondering - how do you find they are with staying where they belong? I always seem to have trouble keeping the disposable pads, which stick to my bra, in the right place. (or maybe it's not the pad that's the trouble, so much as the boob! I'm pretty full busted, and I think that is what causes the problem.) Anyways, has that been an issue for you, or not? And do they leak? I find that especially at the beginning of nursing, I have TONS of milk, and there is quite a flood on the side that the baby's not on when the milk let's down.
