Hi,

I wonder how your night was? Yesterday, when you wrote, your baby was day 2. She was just getting used to life on "the outside". We don't remember what birth is like - but it must be a huge change, going from being a part of someone else to being your own person. Then there is the birth process. For some, that involves drugs which can sedate the baby. Many babies are quite mellow in the first few days - they are not really hungry, they have stores of brown fat stored around their neck and shoulders to get them through the first days when they get small amounts of colostrum - all they need. They are designed to "hibernate" to some extent between feeds so that they don't use to much energy. It is often a quite time to get to know mum and dad. Around day 3, (today) your milk will come in and things will begin to change. As she gets more milk she will have more energy, and may be more wakeful. Often the wakeful nights co-incide with going home from hospital. Sometimes babies become more alert and demanding around 10 days - 2 weeks of age. A baby that is strong and demands a feed is "a good baby" (most people seem to admire the sleepy ones)
Let us know how you go.
