    Day or night first?

    Hey everyone,
Long story short - DS has lots of different allergies/intollerances so i have been cutting many things out of my diet since 8weeks for him.
I have severe Candida overgrowth which has lead to Leaky Gut and Severe Malabsorption and I cannot keep weight on nor put any on. I am 8kg below prepreg weight which makes my BMI 15. So I am very very underweight and this is a genuine health issue. I am seeing a naturopath for this. As I am still bfing that will hinder how easily i can put on weight and so my naturopath suggested to cut back feeds from the numerous (probably around 8-10) I was doing to 4-6. I have done so.....

I still would like to feed DS as long as he deems necessary, however it is seriously taking a toll on my body and I want to cut back and put him half on rice milk. due to naturopath recommendation he still obviously needs BM and she doesn't want to wean him off yet because he would have to have vitamins & supplements to complement rice milk and quite frankly i'm not quite ready to wean him anyway......but.....

{nearly there} I was thinking of just feeding him BM either at night or during the day and give him rice milk the opposite time. Is that possibe and still maintain a good supply or would this quickly end it? We co-sleep at night so it is possible to sleep/feed during the night without much if any more disruption than normal.

And what do you normally do when weaning a baby. Do you slowly give up feeds from day and night evenly or do you ditch one and continue with the other until they give up?

    Thanks for any feedback.

We switched DD from EBM to EBM and formula and we chose to give her EBM before her sleeps in case the formula upset her tummy and woke her. Good luck hun

    How are you going Kirley?
It sounds like keeping the night feeds might be easier than getting up? I think it really depends what works best for you both.
Does breastfeeding really have that big an impact on your weight? Sadly it does not have that effect for me.
Oh, and your supply should be ok. It will adjust down in line with demand. You can call the ABA for advice on this also - 1800-686-2-686

    Hi MadB -
Combined with malabsorption yes it does have big an impact. Any weight that I do put on i cannot keep on for longer than a week. So far haven't cut back again...just seeing how it goes.
    Thanks for your post

Your other option is to start to insist at least during the day that food and water and rice milk come before boob - that way while the number of feeds may still be a lot, the amount taken should reduce somewhat.

As for weaning - gradually is important. You do not need blocked ducts or mastitis. Drop whichever feed he is least attached too and see how you go, or start cutting the time that you permit him to feed for, or see if he'll let you get away with one side rather than two. And if you feel lumpy - hand express or feed bub.

There is also a prescription-only hypoallergenic formula, that has been made from amino acids rather than whole proteins - but apparently it tastes rather ordinary!
