    Question Dieting and Breastfeeding.

I am almost ashamed to admit this but I am currently sitting 16kg over the MAXIUM weight I should be and 21kg over my ideal weight (for shape and height)

I am too scared to go on a strict diet or to get heavily involved in excersise because I am still BF DD. Granted its only 2 nap feeds and maybe 1 morning feed (which is atm as I am still treating mastitis)

But I am SICK of looking the way I do. I am ashamed of how I look because I have always taken such good care of my body up until I lost DDD and its all gone pear shaped since my pregnancy with her.

Whats worse is its now affecting my already bad knees.

    Long story short -

Can someone please let me know if strict dieting will affect my milk production and WILL the combination of diet and exercise release toxins or anything nasty into my milk that will be passed on to DD?

I am not ready to stop feeding DD but I AM ready to tackle my fat!

There are a few of us in the Autumn Challenge who are breastfeeding. Come join us! Personally, i never go for strict dieting cos it doesn't work for me, can't stick to it and it doesn't last. You can definitely exercise and eat healthy and lose weight while breastfeeding though.

i was going to say that too. i think as long as you try to eat healthy, have proper meals (especially a good breakfast) and start exercising, even going for walks with DD in the pram, you should start seeing a difference. plus it will probably make you feel better emotionally too. sorry for the loss of your DDD

    Hey NaeNae

I was in the same dilemmia and was terrified my milk would faulta (is that even a word?) My DD is a little older than your girl but I signed up for a 12 week body tranformation after failing miserably at another program. Im not sure if Im allowed to name them so I wont, pm if you want details

I started 3 weeks ago and to date have lost almost 2.5kgs and I find it SO hard to lose weight! I ensure i keep my fluids up and eat the extra breastfeeding calories when i am feeling super hungry but generally I dont need all of them since the first week. My supply decreased a little from not enough fluid but DD isnt concerned and now I drink more iykwim.

The program has a very strict exercise and calorie count but tbh I only do an hour of walking with DD and not their training.

    Good luck, hun

I lost 15kg using the Weight Watcher Breastfeeding program and maintained my supply throughout.

What Nai said. WW do a BF program... however eating right and doing exercise is all you need, even a brisk walk. BF will even help you lose the weight, i'm terrified of what's going to happen to me after DS weans... I eat like a horse, yet my weight is always exactly the same. Can someone say portion control?
I wouldn't recommend that meal replacement shake bizzo. that's just asking for trouble.

Hi, you can exercise and diet without it having an effect on your milk supply. Your baby's feeding controls your milk supple- you feed and then you make milk. If you want to follow a diet plan something like weight watchers is great. Exercise makes you feel great, and helps you control your appetite. Good luck with your new exercise and weightless program

NaeNae, there is a book called "I can make you thin" by Paul McKenna and it's not a diet. There are four concepts which naturally thin people follow:

    1. Eat when you're hungry.
    2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should.
    3. Eat slowly, consciously and enjoy every mouthful.
    4. STOP when you feel full.

I've lost 4kg in 6 weeks doing it this way and lost a ton of weight a few years back.
The book is awesome and gets you thinking about food differently and goes into why faddy diets don't work. It's not what you're necessarily eating that needs to change it's the way you think about food. Food is fuel, nothing else.

It also goes into ways to beat cravings.

It's awesome and can't recommend it enough and by doing it this way you're not going to affect your milk supply. I'm still b/f DD at least 10 times per day and my supply is still great.
    xx
