nah i havent given Mia any (15 months) as ive wondered the same thing.. i usuallly make her someting different.. Cant wait to see the replies![]()
DH and I eat lots of VERY mild curries that I make in the slow cooker and on those nights i usually give DD something different to eat.
I'm interested to know if other people give their little ones mild curries and if so do they end up with upset tummys or anything from it. I'm a bit over making 2 meals so thinking about trying it with DD.

i think if they're mild she should be fine hun! DH and I eat curries fairly regularly, and at the moment, DD just gets other stuff - but we've introduced mild chilly to her meals and she's fine. if you're concerned, perhaps mix an amount of the sauce into mash spud/rice or something and slowly increase the amount of sauce so that you can check how she reacts to it. the only way you'll know is to try it out i guess
come winter next year we'll be right back into the curries and DD will have them too - hers will probably just have less sauce and more of the "side" (mash/rice etc) until she gets used to them.
My DS2 loves curries! He's been eating mild curries for over a year and never gets a sore tummy![]()
both mine do without issue. ds2 had his first one last week and hes 8mth, i just pureed what we have as its very mild. if in doubt i add plain yoghurt.
our 2 have always eaten curries, we make sure their drink is milk. we LOVE curry and as they eat what we eat...
Thanks everyone. I will give it a go![]()
My DD's eat whatever we do. I usually add some cream depending on their taste, just to take the edge off some of the spices. We love a good Red Thai curry!
Yep - DD and DS both eat curry. Lots of rice helps. They like the mild ones and DS (2.5yrs) will tell me "ooo, spicy mummy" when I get thai take away green curry which is hotter. DD found a whole chilli DS had picked from the bush outside and bit into it the other day. DH had to give her a banana and milk to stop the face pulling![]()
Yep, we have curries regularly and if it's mild DS has some and hasn't had a problem. He loves it. If it's a spicy one then I just give him whatever meat/veg I am putting in the curry and rice, without the sauce. That way I am not having to cook anything different for him.
My parents used to give me the curry they were eating, but my dad used to 'rinse' mine for me. He'd put my serving into a colander/strainer and rinse it under the tap, put it back onto my plate and just put a tablespoon or so of juice back overt it so it still had the curry taste.
Now I really feel like curry for dinner!
DS has been eating mild curries (ie no chili and a little spices) since about 9 months. I figured he got in copious amounts through pregnancy and in my BM, so he probably knew the taste already
He's having it a bit stronger now (15 mos) and seems to love it! He hoed into some seaweed salad the other day that was a little bit spicy (I didn't realise), so we might start adding a bit to our curries every so often.
Normally I make a huge batch of tame curry and just add my own chilli flakes and salt to taste at the table![]()
I make curried sausages and rice all the time, all my boys love it and have eaten it since they were on solids without any repercussions. I make it pretty spicy but not enough to upset tummies. Ive found if they dont like the taste of something they refuse to eat it. Curried sausage is the ONLY meal they will each have 3 helpings of!
my two have been having them since they started eating and we've never had an issue. They love laksas, thai food, mexican....guess it's what they're used to.
I started by giving my DD tastes of mild curries and she loved them so now we give her her own bowl of curry if we're having that for dinner.
I give DS a little bit of curry - he prefers to munch down the rice, puppadoms, samosas etc rather than the actual curry, although he'll eat some of the chunks of meat.
DS does have a full, proper meal at least twice a day (along with two breakfasts and fruit snacks) so if he doesn't eat loads of curry it's not a problem, he had eaten enough for the day (according to guide-lines) at lunchtime.
My boys have both like spicy foods from the beginning - certainly by 12 months both were eating medium - hot curries from our local Indian restaurant, and the same home cooked meals as us, including chili curries, chili in pasta, etc. It is so much easier having the whole family eating the same things.
I have heard that if you eat spicy foods during pg and bfing that kids are more likely to eat them at a young age. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but it might explain why my boys are so good with spice.
Yep, Jazz LOVES curries and chilli. She eats hotter food than Shel! Has since she was... ummm ... I think 8 or 9 or 10 months old.
