Expressing and milk storage questions

Hi all. Bub is 5 days old and my milk is in... and I mean IN. I am blessed, once again, to have an ample supply. So much so that I am painfully full, bub is unable to get a good latch and he's damaging my nipples. My midwife loaned me her pump and suggested 'just taking a bit off the top before each feed to soften the breast so he can attach better', left me some syringes to collect the milk in (???) and then went home.

My slow moving brain has now come up with all the questions I should have asked her...

I'd like to use the milk at a later date (say, for hubby to be able to give a full feed if i need to go to out or sleep in over a feed) but the 10-20 mls that I'm collecting at a time will be of no use. Can I add to already collected milk? If so, how? If I freeze 20 mls in a tub, then express another 20, 4 hrs later, can I just tip it in the top of of the frozen milk? I'm thinking that's a problem as then I'm going to slightly defrost the milk that's already there?

Or do I just freeze lots of tiny bits of milk? If so, in what?

What do you think she meant that I do with the syringes? I could freeze the little portions of milk in them but it seems kinds of awkward to store and defrost without squirting it out.

Or is this all silly since I'm thinking that making a full feed out of the first 20mls of milk per feed might be the wrong thing to do as it's all going to be foremilk and might give bub a sore tummy??

Oh it's all a bit confusing... as are most things to my no-sleep-5-days-postpartum brain!!

you can express 20ml and put it in the fridge. express another 10ml put it in the fridge. at end of day, combine the cooled milk and put it in freezer.

I preferred to hand express in the early days. you can express into bottle or cup if you want to store it.

I asked my MW about the syringes, as I want to take some expressed colostrum with me. She told me to express into a jar throughout the day, keep in the fridge. Then suck up into the syringe, put the syringe in a ziplock bag and put in the freezer.

I would think with normal expressing, you use those bag thingies. I have no idea, sorry.
