It seems I have windy babies... we went through this with my first son but as he was my only child I just muddled through till he grew out of it. This time I think I need to do something as I need to be put my baby down sometimes.
Our baby seems to need to burp and fart all the time so I can't put him down as he gets uncomfortable and wakes up. He's having all day sleeps in the sling and lying chest to chest on me at night.
I feel like I pat & burp him for ages and it's not enough. I rub up his back and that gets some burps out. Cycling legs doesn't seem to do anything.
Should I cut out some foods I'm eating? I hate the idea of a restricted diet but I guess if it would work?
Are there some fool proof burping techniques I should be trying?
We tried wind drops with my first son but I dont think they worked and I don't like using medicines like that anyway.
One thing that always helped our windy son is kinda hard to explain.
We'd lay him over our shoulder making sure it was his tummy that was in contact with our shoulder and not his chest and he was more upright than horizontal.
We'd hold him there using that side's hand on his back.
Then we'd firmly pat his bottom in an upward motion, this would make him kinda bounce up and down if that makes sense? Would always work out some massive burps and would be much more comfortable!
I'll try high on the shoulder- thanks I currently spend a lot of time bouncing on the fit ball which helps some burps. And firm bum pats that bounce him up & down.
I haven't had any personal experience with a windy bub, but friends of mine have had success with eliminating foods from the brassica family of vegetables, which includes broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. I have also heard that avoiding garlic and onion can help with a windy bub. I have been on many food rosters for new mums who have said 'no brassica's, garlic and onion' in their food requests. As I said, I don't have personal experience with a windy bub and I didn't eliminate any foods, so I cannot personally vouch for these methods. I can understand why you wouldn't want to restrict your diet (I could never give up garlic!) but it may only be for a short amount of time until his belly becomes more resilient.
