How do they work out breastfeeding rates?

The doc asked if I was still breastfeeding at each checkup until 12 months. They might have asked at the 18 month checkup too, can't remember. Is this data reportable?

Otherwise, how do they actually *know* how long women in this country are breastfeeding for?

I have no idea really. I don't think anyone asked me when I was no longer bfing my DD, I might have told my GP she bf until she was four, but since I only see her once every year or so, that's probably not the most reliable source!

Would they take a cross-section and extrapolate?
