So for me when i got DD1 to go from formula to cows milk i started with 50ml cows milk...150ml water...then after a week i swapped 100ml cows milk 100ml water....until i got it to fully cows milk.
My DD went down to just 1 bottle (bedtime bottle of 250ml) from about 13 months. The MCHN let us know that her diet was really good and she was getting plenty of good stuff and calcium from her food so didn't really need the bottles anymore. Luckily DD was willing to give them up easily. For the bedtime bottle we started giving half formula and half cows milk and she is now happy to have just cows milk.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm going to start mixing cows milk in to her bottles and see how we go.
Just one more question about that - should I be giving her full fat cows milk? We drink no fat milk and I am wondering if that is ok to give her.
Thanks
^ I'm not 100% on this but I have heard a few times that babies need full-fat milk if they're going to have cow's milk. DH believes it's because the littlies need bucketloads of fats to help build their brains etc, I'm trying to find some information for you as I type this (will come back and post anything relevant later on, unless someone else gets in first!!). We just gave DD full-fat because we drink it lol, I can't stand low-fat or diet anything haha
:yeahthat: It's a good idea to give full fat dairy in general until they're two.
My DD is two, but I still give her full fat because she's a skinny little thing and her diet isn't so great. She doesn't drink heaps of milk but has a yoghurt each day and sometimes cheese if it is melted on toast.
Also, if you're just starting on the cows milk, while they are still younger it is good to heat it up a little as that breaks down the protein in there. (Not sure if this is relevant to FF kids, but when Natty refused the breast at 11 months we had to go onto cows milk and this was the advice given to me. Sometimes the cows milk protein can be difficult to digest, however formula's based on cows milk isn't it? So maybe that's not so relevant...)
