Question I'm breast feeding again :)

Well in a previous 2 posts Many would know I've had alot of probs with dd n constipation n formulas so after a day of screaming n unsettlement I took her to the childrens Hosp cause she was hysterical nothing would stop her n on the way I started kicking myself for even stopping the bfeeding in the first place..
N since I am still abit leaky I thought I might get her back on n thought I'd ask the nurse n etc..
So while I was there due to me being scarfed I asked if there was anywhere I could try n fed her to get my milk to start up again n the nurses were great!!
N she took it beautifully I don't have much cause I'm only starting to stimulate it again but I thought this is great I was soo happy
The dr came seen her n said she is in pain her stomach isn't digesting that quickly cause it's still full n swollen she said that she is crying like she is hungry n will eat but she is really jus reacting to the pain so the more I feed her the more pain she is going through cause it's just building up..
She also said that I can giv her top ups with the formula once she is comfortably on the breast cause she is growing so fast
She advised me not to stay on the Novolac not only due to price but also because it is so refined she isn't gaining anything from it nutrient n etc wise...
    Soo a couple quik questions
Has anyone done this before as in redrafting ur milk n feeding??
    Wat did u do??
And does anyone know of a reasonably priced breast pump hire in Sydney
    Thanks ladies

I've heard Fenugreek tea, available from health food shops is amazing stuff
Also, see if your CHN will loan you a pump for a few days. Long as you keep the regular pumping up for more than a few days that should amp your supply up.
Also, put baby to the breast EVERY chance you get. If she sooks, grizzles, cries, anything. Even if she doesn't drink, as long as its enough to stimulate your let down will be a huge help
Nothing works like a babies mouth, including a pump.
    Good luck!!

No idea how to answer your questions, but I have followed you with your feeding and constipation issues with your DD, and it's so great to hear you're BFing again I hope this sorts out your little princesses digestive issues a bit!

Yep, offer that breast so often you may as well leave your bra off! lol

Fenugreek is good, there is an AMAZING lactation cookie recipe on here somewhere, google it if you can't find it on here, it is VERY effective. Sure someone will have it to post for you.
Pumping will help, even hand expression. anything that stimulates, so yep, babe to boob as often as you can.

Well done!! I am so glad you are going back the BF, after reading your last few posts, I am sure you will have more luck than you are having with the FF.

    Good luck!!

Hi Hun, I think it's fabulous that you're giving bfing another go. Can I recommend calling the ABA and getting in touch with your local group? They will be able to help you out with cheaper breast pump hire and you can speak to a local counsellor. Bfing her as often as you can will boost your supply, but that will take a little while to catch up with her needs. Make sure you offer the breast before the bottle. How often is she feeding? GL!

Good on you hun!! Building up supply can be a bit of a long haul for some people. It took me about 6ish mths to get DD from having top ups at almost every feed to having just 1 formula bottle a day...then I fell pg again when she was 7mths old and my supply dropped so much she weaned herself anyway! LOL, but it was all worth it.

What I tried was (anything and everything!):
Fenugreek tablets- they made DD really windy and gave her tummy pains, so not worth it for us (but it may be great for you!)
Activite (a drink powder kinda like milo, but not, lol!) and the lactation cookies. Not sure if they did anything, but they tasted yummy to me and kept me well fed, lol!
Feeding feeding feeding. This is the most important thing I think. I fed her before a bottle then after too if she would take it. I fed in the bath (I think this is heavenly!), in bed, we would sit on the lounge for aggges and I would just be topless and she could nuzzle and feed when ever she wanted to.
I also pumped 3ish times a day. If I could manage more I did, some days it was less. I would feed her this milk then formula. But I have never been a very good expresser and never got all that much except in the mornings.
I also took a galactogogue (milk stimulant drug) called motillium. There are others you can have too, and they sometimes don't work for some people. It can be a bit exxy, and a pita if your doc isn't sympathetic to your cause. BUT they worked a treat for me. THe problem was I was on the drug for the whole 6mths I bf DD for. I decided to go off them when she was 6mths and having solids and I had to go off them slowly because my body relied on them to produce enough milk. Then as I said I fell pg again anyway and she weaned!!

As for pump hire, you can get them at pharmacies, the ABA, or some hospitals. If I were you I would contact the ABA (Australian Breastfeeding Association). There is a place at Castle Hill in Sydney, plus tonnes of meetings around that you could attend to see a lactation consultant. Or I saw an LC through my MCHN.

Good luck hunny. Be kind to yourself and try not to stress too much. It's not good for you, bubs or boobies!! Only do what you feel you can and remember yours and bubs happiness and health are the most important things (including emotional health).

Z&A, good on you working so hard.
Please get on to an LC to work out a plan - it will be much easier on you if you have a realistic and appropriate plan in place to get this up and running again.
The ABA will also have advice & support for you for relactating.

    Good luck!
