I have mastitis again for the third time in for months. Dd is 14 months old. I have been back at work, mondays & tuesdays for 6 months, where I feed at 6am, express at 1130, then feed again at 7pm, or sometimes at 530pm too.
On days I am home, I feed at 6am, 1130, 230pm, 7pm (around about - depending on sleeps and if she asks for it more).
Last time I went to the gp about it he said perhaps I would need to express more on work days as this may be causing the problem.
I don't know why, seeing I've been back at work for 6 months, it's only just started in the last 4 months, as my dippy as redressed slightly and you would think I would have gotten it when I first started back st work.
Is there anything else that may cause it? I ask training 7 days a eek, so may be a little ruin down, but other than that, I can't think if anything.
I haven't had mastitis this time around, but I have had a lot of blocked ducts, and I worked out it was one of my bras which would bunch up with clothing under my breast when I was feeding, so the milk was getting blocked and then a big lump was forming.
Do you know where you're getting the lumps? It could be associated with expressing too. How exposed are your breasts when you express? Are you letting the breast sit naturally, or is it all bunched up in folds of clothes etc?
I would also suggest expressing more often at work, just in case that's the culprit.
Did you take antibiotics? Did that help?
For persistent blocked ducts you can also get ultrasound therapy from a physio. It's the only thing that has helped me long term, because once a duct gets blocked it forms scar tissue and is more likely to block again. An electric toothbrush held on a towel on the blockage works well too.
That was my first thought too, have you changed to a new bra? I always found I would get horrendous blocked ducts when changing to underwire or a tighter bra.
Have to agree, if its a possiility to then I'd be expressing an extra time at work too, perhaps the expressing isnt clearing as much out as your bub would?
Just yesterday, I was thinking about this and why it happens after such long periods between or after what seems like nothing has changed. Hang in there, you are doing a wonderful job, it cant be easy.
