MIL bought me a medela swing pump in august last year (im guessing..it was mid year sometome)
i used it 1 time a day, 3-4 days a week for a month or two, then 2 times a day from nov til now.
and i think the motor is going.
Should it last longer than this or have i killed it?
It turns off while im expressing. Not every time but id say 50% of the tie i have to turn it back on at least once or twice.
are you plugging it in to the wall or battery?
i found when my batteries died it would turn off. i'd expect it to last a little longer i have a swing and i used it 8+ times aday for 3 months and it's still going plus a friend borrowed it for 2 months...if not the batterys maybe check the converter thingy that plugs into the wall - they can often play up...
You may want to contact Fisher and Paykel Healthcare, who sell and service Medela pumps.
It could be as simple as replacing a seal somewhere.
It is supposed to have a 1 year warranty on the motor, so you may also be able to get it repaired.
I bought mine in Sept last year via motherdirect (ABA store) and I had the same problem so I rang them (after testing the pump with batteries and it works fine that way) and discovered that there was a whole batch with faulty adapters. Currently the mothersdirect people are waiting on new adapters and will send me out one when they come in. I just had to email them about it.
So it might be worth contacting the place you (or get MIL to contact the place she) bought it from and they may be able to get the adapter replaced for you (when the new adapters come in to Aust).
