I would definatly not be feeding them to my child, but it just goes to show how new mums need good advice.
Can you go on there and say maybe that they are full of sugar and sugesst other things she could try instead?.
A first time mum fb friend has posted about feeding her 4 month old bub milk arrowroot biscuits soaked in milk as a first food.
Seems the local doctor has advised some solids because of ongoing issues and she tried rice cereal once and then added pureed fruit today and she still didn't like it so some of her other fb friends are suggesting the arrowroot biscuits which she said she already tried this morning and she loved it!
I know this used to be an old time first food - but seriously, they are full of sugar - I didn't realise people still thought they were a good idea.
They're not right?

No way would I be feeding that to my tiny bub.
That rice cereal crap is disgusting, I'm not suprised she hated it. maybe you could suggest she try avocardo or pumpkin.
I give DS arrowroot bikkys. It wasn't his first food though... I agree with calluna, try avocado, it was a hit here and it's full of 'good fat' if weight gain is the issue..
wow! that is pretty amazing that she did that. but you know, a lot of people do what their parents did and aren't as well informed as us!!
my kids love milk arrowroots but they are 1 and 2 and the bicks used as a light snack (okay, really I use them to bribe the little ferals into the shopping trolley so I can get my groceries done!)
but for a 4month old!! maybe you could suggest to her it's best to start basic, with pure raw foods so if there's any allergies she can trace them back to the source. There's a whole smattering of fruit and vegetables waiting to be discovered!!! and what about porridge? surely that would be better! I really hope she was a least using formula or breast milk for the biscuit soaking![]()
Wow a 4 month old!? They were my DDs first bikkie..... at 12 months!!
My DD wouldnt take to rice cereal or other solids at 4 months so i put it down to too early. If solids is what her baby needs there are MUCH better alternatives.
I gave them to DD from about 7 or 8 months for teething because she didn't like rusks. She loved her pureed fruit & veges though and she ate really well. She's a better eater than her brother. But yeah, I don't think I would have given it as a first food. DD loved the banana muesli (? - something like that - raffertys garden) but flat out refused the rice cereal. Maybe suggest that instead. There are several different flavoured cereals available that would have to be a better choice than biscuits.
Oh wow my DD at 19mths still does not get sweet biscuits to eat. All she knows bikkies as are vitawheats and rice crackers lol
And it wouldn't just be the sugar I'd be concerned about either.

I would be concerned a 4 month old is eating anything and I certainly wouldn't be starting with biscuits and milk! eek...
She's obviously taking the advice others give her though so maybe post some better advice for her?
No, they aren't a great first first, but not everyone is really well informed, and many still follow the advise handed down for generations with no updates.
I have given both my DDs an arrowroot to chew on at about 6 months of age. they survived. There are worse things.
Or don't make any comments. Maybe that's the last thing this new mum needs, to be told she is doing the wrong thing!!
i'm curious what "ongoing issues" might be solved by eating biscuits?![]()
Not entirely sure what - but bubs started off bf then went onto numerous different formulas and thickeners but still unsettled so doctor said to start solids. It's kind of hard getting the full story from fb updates.
Sounds like she's been on the end of plenty of bad advice. Maybe suggest she check out some great info on introducing solids that you read online.Send her the links.
