That sounds like a total PITA!
I would be doing everything you can to find a new Dr. Maybe even it's a little further away? An hour or so trip once every 100 tabs would be better than the half hour every four days!
I currently feed my DD EBM. I am on Motillium to keep upsupply. Currently I am on 2 morning and lunch and 1 at night (5 a day). My doctor will only prescribe 25 to me at a time so every 4th day I sit and wait to see her for the 30 seconds it takes to write out the prescription![]()
I asked her if it because she is concerned of any side effects- she said no, I said well my Lactation consultant got me scripts for 100 at a time (the lactation consultant stops seeing patients when the baby in 3 months old). My doctor said she would have to apply to the government for repeat scripts and she wont do that. She also won't write out repeat script when I request them over the phone. She says I have to come and see her.
I am just soo annoyed. I have to drive half an hour to see the doctor..wait for up to an hour to see her for 30 seconds...then half hour trip home all with DD in tow =, during hot weather and I have to do this every 4 days!!!! As I am in a rural town we have limited doctors and I currently can't find a new doc.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
TIA

Could you go to a closer to home dr?
Unfortunatley not at the moment- we don't have many doctors here.
I was more wanting to know if she really does need government authority to produce repeat scripts for motillium- it is only a drug for nausea in which one of the side effecs is the increase release of prolactin (increases breastmilk supply) I can't understand why the government would need to approve it as I know the government is needed to approve repeats on narcotics and the like..
Hmmm.... seems a little odd. Could you ring up a government advice line? *thinking* Not sure which one... Drugs advice line perhaps?
I used Motillium too (3 years ago)... but I'm fairly certain I was prescribed more than what you are describing at a time.
I assumed she meant she's unable to provide repeat scripts on anything, maybe she's been in trouble for scripts in the past?
To me it doesn't make any sense.
Thanks for you response. I can't find an actual sight that says how many a doctor can prescibe at the one time
arrrrggggg..
And shoes- no, I thought that initially too, but she said no- just government regulations on the drug...weird...
I'm pretty sure there is a government phone advice line for prescribed drugs... but maybe the ABA could point you in the right direction?
Excellent idea. Thankyou![]()
My GP used to prescribe me 100 at a time, the chemist just used to tape 4 boxes together for me and I never had a problem. I just got more at DD's monthly check ups which worked out well.
I just dug through my old prescriptions and found that my GP always prescribed 100 tablets at a time with 2 repeats. No government restrictions that I know of either. Sounds like a PITA to be visiting your GP every four days.
25 is the normal amount for a standard script for motilium...you can have up to five repeats on that so she could give you a script with repeats but she is being a PITA. For larger quantities than 25 at a time at the normal script price you need an authority script which is a phonecall to the government phoneline and they give you a number that goes on the script so you can get larger quanitities at the same price. I get 250 at a time with five repeats. Basically an authority script allows you to get a months supply at the standard script price with five repeats meaning six months of supply, this is the standard for most ongoing medications.
She is just being a PITA and lazy.....my doctor rings for the authority script while I am in the room with him and puts the authority number in the appropriate box on the script and off I go...see ya in another six months type deal....
Are these appointments bulk billed? I hate to think of you paying out every 4 days! Maybe she's using you to get more money from medicare?
I tend to agree with these girls... unless you have an underlying medical condition that she needs to monitor I would think she's just being lazy... BUT then again by having to physically see you every 4 days that would mean she'll have less time for other patients meaning that in theory she should be busier. I really hope you are able to sort this![]()
My guess was that age is ripping off medicare too. Hope you can get answers, going every 4 days is crazy!
Legally with an ongoing medication like this she is supposed to supply you with enough for a months supply...she could get done for over-treating, the government don't like doctors who over consult like that
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou everyone- now I know to go in there tomorrow with gun blazing. I knew something was skew wiff with her
The idea that she is just wanting more $$$$ makes sense- I have a clear medical history and she has never so much as touched me let alone do my blood pressure or anything...pffttt...
thanks girls![]()
