Ahoy!
Long story short, Spock still wakes on average every 3 hrs over night. On a good night, we get a 4hour stretch, which we might get one or two nights a week, on a bad night she wakes every 1-2hrs. Which happens two or three times a week... It is starting to get to me, I can't handle it anymore.
When she wakes, I have been trying to resettle without bf, but not strictly, and often do just bf her, which lately, 90% of the time she is asleep before she even finishes her first suck, but won't have a bar of sleeping until she feels that nipple on her lips...
Also, after dh leaves for work in the Morning, from about 5am I am so over it I lay down to feed her, which means I can sleep, but she stays on my boob until 730, and I have been in the same position and my hip takes all day to recover.
So I plan to be more strict, I'm thinking of doing a no milk time block. Eg, no bf at all between 11pm and 5am. Have people had any success doing this? I'm hoping this will eventually give her a longer sleeping blocks...I know it will be a battle for a bit.
Any other tips? Suggestions? Advice?
T maybe we can be buddies with this. DD2 is exactly the same only for me it's 5-8 feeds a night.
I did the Jay Gordan thing with DS too at this age from memory....
I did something similar to what you are proposing. As you know, DD3 has been shocking at night for, well forever, and I was so far beyond exhausted and not functioning well at all. I began not offering her a feed after her first night wake (usually around 10.30/11pm) and not before 6am. It worked really well for us, and fairly quickly and really very little complaint from her - made me kick myself for not trying it a bit earlier. I still got up for her and comforted her, offered her a drink of water etc but no boob. She is now waking only once per night for a feed - we even had four magical nights in a row when she slept from 8pm to 6am or so.
We are the same. Have gone from our very first feed overnight at about 11pm to one feed only at about four thirty. We did the same as Lulu, resettling in other ways just not boob until 4.30. It was actually nowhere near as painful as I thought it was going to be which makes me think she would just feed out of habit, not cos she was hungry. And this kid would feed for literally minutes but comfort suck for a good 40 mins longer minimum, usually more like 75 mins. Would scream if I took her off the boob
And would repeat the whole cycle about two or three times throughout the night.
I'd like to say we noticed a big improvement in her nights as a result however it would be far from the truth. At least DH can share the load now that she doesn't have to have boob to get back to sleep
Ok, yes, it can work. You can cut out the feeds. Do you want the bad news? She might still wake up. But you can try and see if you get more sleep. (I have my fingers crossed for you.)
She will be upset and cry, but you can still be a caring, loving and responsive mother to her even if you don't feed her every time she asks.
Does your partner help at night? That often works well, too.
Good luck!
Ok, so we officially started this last night, and we had one of the best nights ever! But I'm pretty sure we purely flunked it and it had nothing to do with my plans. She went to bed all good at 7ish, woke at 9ish, I gave her a cuddle and a bf and she went back to sleep. We joined her at about 1030, she was unsettled, every 5 minutes she would cry, but she was still asleep. Not like her at all, normally, if she cries she is awake and crawling all over me. This time, she cried, but remained laying down. I soothed her but didn't offer milk because she wasn't asking for it. She finally settled at about 1130ish. She then didn't wake til 430!!! I thought I might give her some as technically I stopped before 10 not 11, but thought I would see how we go. I sat her on my lap and we had a cuddle, and she did the most insane burn, so big she started gagging, I thought she was going to throw up. But nope, the. She laid her head on my chest and started snoring. S I laid her back down and we slept again til 6, had milk and slept snuggled til 8.
Maybe she just knew my plans. I did explain to her before we went to bed that she would t get milk every time she woke up...
We will see how tonight goes
Addit ~ sorry should have also said thankyou for the jay gordon stuff. That is exactly what I was planning

I my little man is much the same. I followed the Dr Jay Gordon night weaning advice, and we went from hourly-2 hourly feeds to only once in the night in 2 weeks with no tears. DS has a big feed at bedtime (7.30ish, again at roughly 2am then another in the morning before we get up for the day at around 7am. He is still waking frequently though. That's the next challenge!
Last nght was the worse night of my life. She is so obviously not ready... aside from the screaming ALL NIGHT only sleeping when I was standing and holding her. She seems more cliny during the day, and is on my boob all day. Hour long sessions. Alot more tan normal.
But I can do the every 2-3hrs waking anymore. But I can't do the only 2-3 hs of sleeping siting up and screaming all night either...
Is there anyway you can get some catch up sleep at another time? a weekend sleep in or sometime during the week when someone else can watch your little one? It might help you survive until she is ready, or give you a bit more energy to help her through the changes. Can your partner do any of the night time parenting, so you can get one block of good sleep? take care, its just tough
Try dropping just one feed a night. So if she is feeding for example 10pm, 12.30am, 2.30am, 4am you would pick just one to say no too. Have DH resettle her. She knows she can get milk from you. She will give dad a hard time but he needs to stick at it. After a week or so drop another feed. So on, so forth.
