Is there a way to confirm that I have nipple thrush - can a GP run a swab test or something? My baby is 4 weeks old - my nipples are extremely sensitive (if my bath towel brushes against them, it hurts!), and when he first latches on I almost want to scream with pain - it then subsides. I do get the random stabbing pains - but not often - OH...and I've been treating my nipples and baby's mouth for thrush for 2 days and seen no improvement (MCHN sees no signs of thrush in baby's mouth) - and I've just come off a week of heavy duty antibiotics for a post c-section uterine infection. I'm beginning to think that if it is thrush, it needs medicine (diflucan) as the other things I've been doing are not helping.
