    Overfeeding 1-yr-old?

    Quoll his food. Really, really, really loves it. He's now got a pot belly.

    His daily food intake is like this :

    * breakfast - 1 cup milk + baby porridge
    * morning tea - 1-2 biscuits + water
    * Lunch - sandwich / leftovers
    * afternoon tea - 1-2 biscuits / fruit + water
    * dinner - 1 rissole / sausage + scoop potatos + carrots etc (or 1 large sachet baby food)
    * sweets - if we're having some, he'll have some - icecream / fruit / cream / cheesecake etc

    He has 2 naps/day + his night sleep, all with a cup - 1.5 cups mlk to settle with.

    Thoughts?

    I don't think your over feeding him at all, sounds like a healthy appetite.
    Can you change the biscuits to carrot sticks or yoghurt for a 'healthier' option if your worried?

    He will be moving more now too so that little pot could be getting ready for a growth spurt?

    Sounds good to me..maybe he is storing up for when he turns 2 and won't eat at all

    Thanks ZF. Problem is that it's DH who's the SaHD and he doesn't "do" yogurt or carrot sticks. But while I'm home I will try .. yogurt, yum!

    Sounds like a healthy diet to me, if you are worried you could swap the biscuits for cruskits with tomato/avocado/yoghurt cheese/ABC butter etc or like ZF said maybe some yoghurt and fruit for dessert rather than the ice cream etc but from the sounds of it that's only occasionally anyway. Sounds like you're doing a great job.

    Cut cheese into sticks, grapes in half (or whole if he eats them) rice cakes, water melon.
    Stay clear of the 'baby yoghurts', would he do yoghurt if you put it in little tubs all ready to go, is it just the cleaning him up he doesn't do with yoghurt?
    It is VERY messy

    He has a variety of foods, I don't think there is too much to worry about, he's not filling him with juice, cake & lollies

    He sounds perfect hun. Caelan is a great eater too. He would eat similar amounts to that. I'm just thankful he's a good eater too, and not like his brother

    I dont think your overfeeding at all, sounds much like DS at 1.
    At one stage DS's belly was so big it stuck out the bottom of his shirt even when the shirts were technically too big.... Quite the buddha belly!
    Since he's upgraded from walking to running, climbing & other lovely toddlerish antics etc his pot belly has shrunk a bit but seems to come and go.

    DS regularly has 2 weetbix for breakfast, plus fruit ...

    Lunch is smaller - two pieces of bread with fruit, and dinner is normally a decent size bowl of meat and veg or pasta, and he eats between 1/4 and all of it, with yoghurt and/or fruit.

    Snacks vary - generally some fruit or crackers.

    And he has milk in the morning and before bed.

    One day he inhaled his brekky literally within minutes, so DH gave him one more weetbix and a banana ... and then a FOURTH weetbix ... and a little yoghurt ... I don't know where he put it all - he was only about 13 months old ... I can't eat more than 2 or 3 weetbix!

    But sometimes they're hungry, I guess

    Millie eats a similar volume Kaz, she chows it down and usually demands some of whatever I'm having (which at the moment is saladas!!!). She loves the Jalna yoghurt that comes in the small tubs - mixed berry or blueberry (no added sugar) - and eats sticks of tasty cheese, I just cut up a small block and keep it in a container. I can't give her enough fruit - grapes, bananas and kiwis are all the rage at the moment.

    She's also very definite about when she's NOT hungry - the cat scored much of her chicken sausage tonight...

    Sounds perfect hun... I posted a thread a while ago about how much Mr P eats... he eats more than I do!
