    Peanuts and nappy rash?

Hope you Mummas can help me...

LO (15 weeks) had mild nappy rash early last week. After not getting better through the usual methods I thought it might be my diet and I happened to not eat my usual breakfast on Thursday and hey presto, rash got better. I suspected the peanut butter (new tub of actual ground up peanuts which was recently changed from normal Kraft peanut butter)

Yesterday I forgot I wasn't eating it and has peanut butter again, and this morning I had a handful of nuts again not thinking. Changed her nappy after her arvo feed and she's got a rash again, so I'm fairly convinced it's the peanuts.

How long will it take for the peanuts to get out of my system, and does anyone have any information on the likelihood of developing food allergies? I've obviously touched peanuts and then touched her and she didn't develop a skin rash, but she has been a bit unsettled tonight and I wonder if she's got a bit of an upset tummy?

    TIA

Peanuts are a common thing to cause problems when bf'ing it seems.
Sorry but i would cut them out of your diet til you stop bf'ing. You don't want to bring on a peanut allergy.
Good that you were so fast to work out what it is

Thanks I'll definitely ditch them, and I'm glad to know it's not unusual!

Okay I removed peanuts from my diet and after two days her rash cleared. However....

It's come back. I'm eating nothing with peanuts in it.

She's in MCNs (BBH hemps and bamboos) - changed frequently, minimal detergent, etc. Sposies are not an option (ethical obligation to the earth). Plenty of pants off time during changes.

I used coconut oil when it was red before and have started with it again today. Normally we use the Nature's Child bottom balm.

It's red with little dots, it feels dry and scaly but doesn't seem to bother her.

I have contact irritant dermatitis so am really particular about lotions and salves and detergents so I'm fairly confident that's not a cause.

What else could be causing it?

    HELP!

Could she perhaps have thrush? The rash sounds kinda similar to what my DD had not long ago, perhaps look up nappy thrush on google and see if the rash looks similar?

My DD got thrush after having some nasty nappy rash (to the point of being slightly bloody when I wiped her) not sure of the connection between them tbh, and it could be a coincidence, but still a possibility, HTH!

It may be a complete coincidence - I'd look into other causes also. Thrush, or even some sort of viral thing. It could be a reaction to the fabric in the nappies (some babies react to some of the man-made fibres on the inner layers)
If you seriously suspect food issues, I suggest consulting a dietician

Natural fibre inners make my DD rash up sometimes. I use microfleece liners. Corn flour is a good rash preventative.

It's possible it's a fungal rash too. Hydrozole is an over the counter anti fungal that works. We only use it on hardcore cases, and Canesten anti fungal rinse in with the Nappies til it clears.

Well it's gone again! This morning she had dry flaky skin where the rash was but no redness.

Maybe I should do a food diary? This is driving me nuts!

Thank you Mummas, you're all so helpful :*
