I know toddlers are supposed to have full cream milk which is fine but the other day I was having a banana smoothie on light milk (I hate full cream and cant drink it).
I went to offer DD some and then thought crap its light milk so I didnt give her any which she was not happy about!
So my question is can they have light milk on occasion or is there something bad in it for them?
FWIW- I have stopped giving DD full cream milk and have switched back to formula (even though I know its not required), as it works better for her? She was getting way too congested and mucous build up with full cream milk.
They need the fats for brain development or something like that. You tried giving your DD a lactose free full fat milk? My sister was all congested as a bub with milk and later we found out she was lactose intolerant which could have contributed to being snuffly.
I use full fat milk normally, but if I run out he will have light. I think occasionally it is ok. Oh and we all use the a2 milk which I find better for ds wrt digestion.
I think the full fat is because they need the fats not because reduced fat has anything wrong in it, it just doesn't have what they need. I think an occassional drink of light milk is fine - it had better be as I have given it to both girls when I have run out of full fat milk!
In child care, we are supposed to give kids over 2yrs light milk, so I daresay that a little bit of low fat milk sometimes wouldn't hurt at all. It's all milk, just with some of the fat removed.
