Hey hey, me again! So I have been hand expressing before feeds and am trying reclining slightly if I am feeding girls one at a time which seems to be helping with my firehose let down, yay! My next thing is that they are both long enough now that when I am feeding them, their little feet are hitting the sides/back of chair or cushions and they keep on kicking it and pushing off which makes them break their latch. They get frustrated cos they keep coming off and I get frustrated cos I have to physically hold my noob on place which is hell on my back and neck and it also bloody well hurts as they don't come off gently, it's more of a big yank with nipple in mouth first. Help!!!!!
Just jumping on, as I'm also interested to see suggestions. Our DD is teething and hates feeding on my right, so I've been doing football hold and her legs dangle down the gap of the bedhead/mattress, so I'm also sitting in an awkward position with my 'noob' too. I've got a feeding pillow, but she's getting a bit long. hmm. Not sure what you can do about the kicking off. Sorry, not much help, am I
sorry to tell you, but the kicking off just gets worse with age. i don't like feeding tandem, so only feed one baby at a time and angle baby's feet away from the couch. with my little one, i have to hold boob in place most feeds too.
Yup having to hang onto my boob otherwise I reckon I'd have foot long nipples the way she's going. Doesn't it really hurt your neck and shoulders?
I might try feeding on the floor as its line she is trying to do freestyle. And I do wonder if she is getting full feeds as last night, the dreaded mastitis started to rear its ugly head again
For one at a time feeding you may find lying on your side with bub lying on their sides on a towel works. It means that they can just let any firehose dribble out easily, and also that you can put a hand behind their back to stop extreme pulling off.
Also, try putting more nipple in to their mouths - sometimes pulling off and clamping down are signs that they feel they are slipping.
I actually really like feeding lying down but my only problem is that they both fall asleep really quickly. If they do this, do I assume they have had enough or are they so content and happy snuggling up like that, it's impossible to stay awake? She just seems so angry all the time and nothing seems to be helping. Food, cuddling, burping, changing, having a big spew, doesn't feel hot etc etc and she's been this way since about 4 - 5 weeks old but getting worse. Just don't know what to do.
I forgot about that bit!
I used to lie down but actively try and keep bub awake - singing, tickling, whatever. And bub would still suck while asleep too.
And we would have a baby who was usually happy except from midnight to 4 am when he just screamed.
Baths helped, tummy rubs helped, going for walks helped - and at about 4 months or so he got less grumpy. It seemed as though he was scared of his own farts.
If they are weeing and growing then they are getting enough.
