Sippy cup for EBM = after recommendations pls

I've tried a Nuk one but DD3 is just not interested in it at all - she chews on the valve thingy but that's it, no attempt at all to drink/suck.

I really need to get my return to work organised, but given how much she is still feeding I can't do it until I can be sure she will somehow be able to get EBM or formula if I can't express enough to cover her through two long work days for me. She flat our refuses bottles of any kind.

Does anyone have any magic recommendations that worked for their bub? Thanks.

have you tried an open cup?

or a cup with no valve so she doesn't have to suck it out. at least til she understands that milk comes out of different containers.

spoon feeding ebm is an option too.

DS uses those take and toss sippy cups? I reuse them for a while to make them last but they aren't very expensive anyways. He has milk from it and water.

LuluHB I use the Vital baby sippy cup for DS to drink water from with his meals.

It doesn't have a valve, and is double handled so he can hold it. We still have to tilt it up for him at this stage but he has the hang of drinking from it. You can just take the lid off if you want a normal cup too.

Best of all is it's only about $4.00 so if you don't like it then it's not alot of outlay

Could you try a straw cup? They don't need to tilt it

Spock drinks water out of a sippy cup no worries...not sure on the brand was a cheap one from big w.. it has a flexible plastic lip thing. i tried putting ebm in it but she wouldnt drink it she sculls water tho. my mach nurse told me uest that she will be fine without bm/ebm for the period of a shift (8hrs) as long as she drinks regular water and solids. not sure how i feel about that, im more comfortable knowing she is still having regular milk. but dont know if that reassures you or not.

Lulu can you leave a cup out with bubba's toys? I did that with DD and the curious creature that she is, she naturally gravitated towards this new novelty and over a day learned how to drink from it.

We also use those Take and Toss ones from the supermarket for water. They don't have a valve, so she got the hang of it quickly. We have Avent sippy cups, but our boys took ages to work these ones out.

Sounds like I have to get the valve-less ones and give them a whirl and maybe a straw one too.

Ladylove - she gets two different sippy cups to play with all the time but just doesn't get interested beyond chewing it and smacking it around - that she really enjoys ;-) I could try a bottle too I guess - hadn't thought of that as a play thing. Definitely one for trying off the good carpet though!!

HotI - my folks are going to look after her a couple of days a week and while they're fantastic and they WANT her as opposed to feeling like they should do the right thing by taking her ITMS, I'm trying to make it as easy as I can for them. My stepdad is 80 in a couple of weeks so I have to not break the poor old things.

T - yeah, I'd not be comfortable with that either. Also, my time away from Miss A is going to be more like 12 hours by the time I've factored in travel, working late which will invariably happen etc and I figure that's just way too long between drinks.

I wouldn't try a bottle. would seem like a step backwards to me at this age....

my dad said if you get a juice popper with a straw, it is small, and you can gently squeeze it so they get drink, and that will help them learn to suck on a straw itms. I havent tried it yet though, but maybe a straw is an option.

I tend to agree with this and I would much rather she used a cup, but given how much she is still feeding, it may be the best option. She's going to drink a whole lot more from a bottle than she would from a cup - I know that just from looking at how much more quickly my big girls will drink out of a cup as opposed to a pop top or something, and its only a couple of days a week at my folks so I'm not too concerned about that aspect - she wouldn't be given a bottle at home. To be honest at the moment I'd be happy with whatever she took, so long as she took it!!!

I gave DD one of the ecotanka water bottle which had an advent sippy spout on it. At that time I didn't realise its actually advent. Anyways there's a plastic thing (valve) inside to stop leaking but allows sucking. So she started with sucking it but then found it hard to suck so I removed the valve and she's been taking milk in it since. I did have same bottle for water so she gets lots of practice using it.
