You don't have to skip the beans completely. I make a thick vegie soup (as an alternative to mashed/pureed vegies), and I use kidney beans or borlotti beans to add fibre & all round goodness to the soup. I mash them up to break up the skins before I feed it to my DS. Chickpeas in soup are also great, as is barley.

DS had salmon and beans (no sugar and no salt beans) quite early on, about 7-8m I think. He loves them. He's been fine digesting them, unless he eats too many then one or two come out whole.

aaah thats a good idea re the soup - i already make a vege and lentil one so may do some with chickpeas etc - add some goodness as you say! i was concerned that a 'serve' of beans may be too hard to digest - but i guess if i mix it with veges etc it should be ok.. - i will give it a go and see i guess!!!
So the smoked salmon is out? he already has regular salmon but i guess the smoking rules out a salmon and cream cheese bagel??

I've been giving my DD (11 months) kidney beans, chickpeas and lentils in soupy stewy things for quite a while, and she's had no problems. I'd also given her one or two normal baked beans here and there when I had been eating them myself, and she seemed to love them. So last night we gave her her first full serve of salt-reduced baked beans. OMG, she looooved them, but she did the hugest farts ALL night, and had an awful nights sleep. Never again!!! Will just keep giving her a few of the other beans mixed in with veg from now on...
