Straight from breast to sippy cup?

    Hey guys,

My little one is exclusively breastfed. In the early days we had some horrible issues so I expressed and gave her that from a bottle, which at the time she took really well. She hasn't had EBM from a bottle since she was 5 weeks old and now totally refuses to put one in her mouth.

As time is going on, I'd like to get out for some time by myself - but she just will not take a bottle. Would it be too early at this stage to try her with a sippy cup? I know that someone mentioned this to me here ages ago but I can't remember what was said.

    Thanks

Never too early to try a sippy cup!

We never used bottles here at all, she refused them. I did however finf the yellow/orange Pidgeon cup was fabulous - Charlotte was a little older than yours though.
It has 3 tops for it - a bottle teat, a straw and this one in the middle which is a soft rubber mouthpiece one, with a slit in the tip - so when they squeeze/bite/gum it the milk comes out. Was awesome. They are about $20 but last ages and as I said, will go right through to the straw.

We also just used regular cups with her from around 6 months.

Not ure how old your little one is, but we offered a sippy cup with some water in it from 4 months. She's never had a bottle, excet when we tried to feed her EBM as a newborn, but she just wouldn't take it.

My boys weren't bottle drinkers either, but took sippy cups from 3 months. Personally I think this was easier than having to go from breast to bottle, then bottle to cup anyway. However, if you are keen to keep trying the bottle, I heard an interesting tip the other day - apparently some babies prefer the bottle when the teat is warmed. You can do this by running it under warm water.

Thanks for that, I think I'll try her with the sippy cup - she gets herself in an awful state if we go near her with a bottle these days!

I'm another one who hasn't used a bottle, all 3 of my boys went from breast to sippy cup. I used to different sorts, they would have one with a straw with their water in it and I bought the really cheap $2 dinky cups from K-mart (they aren't leak proof though) and they had their milk out of these ones. They found this easier as they wouldn't have to suck really hard to get the milk.
I''m not sure of the age of your little one so not sure at what stage she is at.
