    Those first few sucks.....

At the moment I'm at the point where those first few sucks hurt like anything. I literally grit my teeth and try to breathe through it. She's attaching correctly, I think it's something to do with her trying to trigger the let down. The thing is, I don't recall this with DD1 (or it stopped really early in so I blocked it from my memory).

Anyway, did/does this happen to you. If so, will it stop?

It did for me with my first, not so much my second. I remember literally screaming with pain when DS would attach. I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than me can give you a better answer, but for me it did settle down quite quickly.

Yes, the first few sucks used to really hurt. I'd take a deep breath, drop my shoulders then count backwards from ten. I don't do that now and from memory it stopped around bf for 4 weeks for me

Ouch, that sounds painful! Many mums find they experience an initial tenderness when their baby attaches and begins to feed, but it should pass, which it sounds like yours does. Continuing pain (throughout the feed) indicates incorrect attachment, or some sort of other issue (damaged nipples) but if it hurts at the beginning and then eases, well that sounds pretty standard Like Rhi I used to take a deep breath and roll my shoulders, which would be all tense, and work through it.

It should pass. Soon I hope!

I'm glad to hear it'll pass - I just hope it's a few weeks for me and not a few months!

Yep, happened to me too. Occasionally I get a stingy let down still, but it definately passed fairly early - within a month or 2.

    Those first few sucks.....

My DD and DS2 had suction power to rival the best vacuum cleaner, and yes with them it hurt the first few sucks until let down and my oversupply kicked in (they would then come off and let milk go everywhere.)
It did get better as they got older.

I found it was from the stretching of the nipple, so once they had stretched it and there was milk flowing it would be fine. With dd it was 6 weeks until it subsided. I've been breastfeeding ever since so luckily no second time round for me

it happened with me at the start too but really started to ease as dd got more efficient at drinking.
