URGENT: Perth breastfeeding mothers.... KEMH milk bank about to run out

URGENT CRY FOR HELP!!! King Edward Memorial Hospital (Perth, Western Australia) are desperately low on donor milk and have asked for our help. At this stage they will RUN OUT next week. Premmie babies need breast milk and sometimes their Mums can't produce what they desperately need. Let's see if our little group really can support KEMH's milk bank. How can you help?

This milk really makes a massive difference. From a mother:

I was very lucky this time that Luke is such a strong baby can you believe that he has been home 3 weeks on wednesday and is just 37 and a half weeks. My first son was also a prem and i expressed for 3 months while he was in hospital i was too sick to even try this time and i have a healthy baby boy who all you mums kept alive for me. I didn't even know we HAD a milk bank in WA! I've changed my FB status about this, I have heaps of yummy mummy friends who might be able to help, just wish I could too!

Does anyone know why they only want mums who have bubs less than 6 months? Is it because the milk has more nutrients then?

Unfortunately I am not able to donate as I wouldn't be able to get my milk there!

Apparently they organise couriers Sally, a lady on there was saying she sends hers from Kalgoorlie!

Not sure about interstate, but I reckon it'd be worth asking the question...

I hope there are enough WA mum's out there to help out. When bubs has arrived this is something that I may look into- however I dont think that I will be eligable as I am unable to give blood due to living in the UK for 3 1/2 years during the exclusion time for mad cow. I will still look into it though

I spoke to my sister yesterday coz she's volunteered. They took some blood from her, and lent her a pump and 6 500ml bottles, and told her to fill 'em up! They said to try and express at least 100ml per day, and snap freeze it, writing the date of the first 'donation' on the bottle.

Her bub is 4 weeks, and she said it was such a relief when she expressed yesterday - she has so much milk and was in heaps of pain, poor thing! So she sat down for 10 minutes once he was asleep to see how much she could get, and expressed 125mls in just 10 minutes!

Thats great that they have enough doners Minny! All the publicity about it obviously worked
