So had a visit with the chn today and she was thrilled with dd. But she said that now she's over 6 months I should be giving her water on between feeds and meals. I have been giving her a sippy cup with meals but she just plays with it. I know she's not drinking any of it. So the chn said I should offer the water in a bottle because it's really important that she is getting some with the weather getting hotter. Is it that important she get water until she learns to take more interest in a sippy cup. I thought that bm was a great thirst quencher???
She will get water through your breastmilk, no need to push it if she isn't interested. Just keep letting her play with the sippy cup and she will work it out one day.
it is a great thirst quencher, and you are doing the right things, you are offering her a cup - she is playing with it. Yup. spot on. When she is thirsty she will drink - from you or the cup or both. It's the way the system works.
DS was the same with a sippy cup to begin with so I just offered him the breast if I was worried he was thirsty. I found a really good brand of sippy cup and he now drinks really well from it so has a lot of water.They learn in time, don't stress too much.
A sippy cup is fine if she is thirsty she will drink it otherwise playing with it is fine. I would not be offering it in a bottle as she is BF and getting fluids/water from you via the milk.
My oldest hardly drank water until he was 13 months old would just play with it, tip it out and chew on cup.

On a hot day if you think she is thirsty and needs more fluids, offer her more frequent breastfeeds.
