So ds2 has just had his 4mth checkup and hes dropped to the 25th percentile. He's been fussy at the boob but I'm continuing to offer it to him constantly. He'll feed for about 5 mins then not be interested. The last few days hes been really stuffed up and not sleeping great at night which means he's sleeping more during the day. But should I be worried?
Was the nurse worried about the crossover in percentiles? What did they suggest?
It is generally pretty normal for babies to cross percentiles. I am guessing he hasn't actually lost weight, just gained weight more slowly. What percentile was he on? And how many feeds would he have in 24hours?
The percentile your baby is born on has more to do with conditions in utero - if your placenta worked really well, and your nutrition was good your baby might be born relatively bigger than he was genetically meant to be. At some point he will need to "grow" to his genetic potential. Thus the cross over in percentiles.
Yeah the nurse wasn't worried. She seemed to think it's got to do with his fussiness at the moment. He's gone from the 50th to the 25th. He's still gaining about 100gr a week which isn't to bad I thought. He's feeding pretty regularly because I'm offering him the breast all the time to make up for the fussiness. He seems to feed best if I lay with him on the bed so I'm trying to do that and hoping that this phase passes soon.
