Where to buy cheap Feeding Maternity tops?

Hmmm - was really not sure where to post this thread, so Im sorry if it annoys anyone for being here!

I have enough clothes to get me through the next 3 mths, but I have started to wonder what I will wear after bubs is here. I plan to BF and have seen on a few online stores "feeding tops". Can anyone suggest a place I can go and try them on ie; kmart, myers etc and see if these feeding tops are my kind of thing. I dont want to have to pay too much either if I can help it, many of the online ones sell for over $50 and if I want a couple then thats a bit more than I want to spend. Im just looking for T- shirt type thing.

eta. i did look at Kmart and Myer already but could only find regular maternity tops, not feeding ones.

just subscribing, cos i'm after breastfeeding tops too. we're 23 months along, so i can't justify buying the online prices when i have no idea how much longer i'll need them, for all i know, my bub could self wean any time now.

but some tops i bought (in the normal section, not maternity) of places like Target, kmart, big w etc, were CROSS OVER tops. to wear it by itself, when pregnant and / or breastfeeding, you'd be flashing more than you'd want to! so i wear them with a breastfeeding camisole on underneath.

and CROSSOVER dresses (that have a tie for around the waist) are excellent for breastfeeding in too. You do the tie up as tight or as loose as you want, so PERFECT for when you're pregnant. Got that one at Target, just happened to be the fashion in mid 2006 - crossover tops and crossover dresses (in the regular section).

but alot of the "normal" fashion, especially for summer, uses some very synthetic fabrics - i ended up wanting nothing but cotton, breathable fabric - and stuff i didn't have to iron.

I'd check out big w, target and k-mart as they're pretty good with prices, also try ebay you never know what you'll find!

Umm, this may not help, but I just where singlets doubled over; pulling one up and one down.
I got all mine from JayJays in heaps of different colours 2 for $15.

Yup, I do the same as cookiemonster. I wear a stretchy singlet under a t-shirt. I also got some crossover tops and button up tops which are nicer to wear out. I still wear singlets under to hide the mummy tummy noone needs to see, LOL! Just pull it down under my boob. I got mine from big w in about 5 different colours, only $10 each and doesn't matter that they get stretched, just buy new ones every few months. I did the same with DD.

    Hi,

Mothers Direct is the store of the Australian Breastfeeding Association. They have great bras and tops and excellent service.
Having said that, special breastfeeding clothes can be nice, but aren't necessary. I have fed 4 children for many years each and have never owned any special breastfeeding clothes - just pull up your tshirt and off you go.

Also look for t-shirts that have a few buttons at the top so you can unbutton them or wear a cotton shirt that buttons down. That way you can just unbutton and away you go. You can find some good used ones on eBay for a decent price too.

I wear the bonds feeding singlets, they are fantastic. Though they generally flash more than what most want to show but just tuck the spew nappy (i.e. flat nappy lol!) under the strap and there you go, no peek-a-boos! bit exy, about $25-30, but if you can grab them on sale they are great.

Kmart had a breastfeeding singlet a lot like it though when you unclipped you would still be covered, and there was a little slot to poke the nipple through. I liked those because you aren't exposed quite as much but the support isn't the same and my straps kept unclipping as they aren't very secure.

At home if I'm just wearing normal clothes I just pull my shirt up, which is ok but bares my stretchmarky jellybelly lol, not something I'm willing to do while out, but if you wear a singlet underneath (easier in winter than in summer though) that solves that problem.

I just bought some nursing tops online (including the Bonds nursing singlets) from a site called 'nursingwear'. They have lots to pick from and there are no problems with returns etc. I have also just bought some regular button up shirts. Big W seems to have quite a few to pick from and not too expensive. I haven't bought too many of each as I'm unsure at this stage what will work - once Bub arrives and I get used to feeding I'll buy some more of what is most comfy. Good luck - it's an exciting journey!!!

cookiemonster - that is a good idea with the two tops. Thanks.

I had some crossover maternity tops left over from pregnancy (got these from Kmart, all the same but due to sales price varied between $7-$20) and recently when I realised that none of my summer clothes even fit over my BFing boobies, I bought a bunch of stretchy V-neck t-shirts from shops like ICE and SES.... paid a max of about $15, some were 2 for $15 or 2 for $20. I just pull down the side I want to feed from and unclip my bra and off I go.

I never used special tops. I do have the bonds singlets like Leasha but I generally use them under tops and pull my shirt up. If you're worried about your tummy showing you can always use a wrap across your tummy and bubs on top of that. For me, I think that the "specially" designed feeding tops are way to exy. I feel less exposed by lifting my top as there's no bare skin above my boob.

    Hi girls

I bought 2 maternity/feeding singlets from Kmart today.... they are the Bub2Be branded ones and I'm yet to try them on but they look great and easy to pull down just like a maternity bra unclips the same way. They were only $17 each too.

Cookie - that's a great idea about wearing two singlets....

I bought a breastfeeding top from target, I don't remember how much it was though. Lots of normal tops can be used as breastfeeding tops, things with v-neck cross-over necklines are good because you can just pull the panels down. I found it hard to find things because I have a large bust so the bonds things and big W bras etc. don't come in my size, so when I wanted to buy actual singlets I had to fork out the big bucks. I found a website that sells $17 maternity/breastfeeding singlets at an online store but they're quite crappily made and offer literally no support so I wouldn't recommend them, basically they're just maternity singlets with clips added and ribbon holding the strap to the actual top when you undo it.

i've seen some maternity singlets at myers, Made by loveable...i think 35 each or a 2 pack for 60...something like that. I've still got 11 weeks to go and tried it on seeing as its meant to be for pg too but they were quite short on my stomach. I could have got away with wearing it now but don't think it would have kept for much longer so just decided once the baby is born I might try them on again and see what i think.

Ooh I like the two singlets idea. I just wear normal shirts and pull them up, letting Bub cover my bear belly. But I worry that I will stretch the fabric.

I would love to use a nursing top but I can't find one that fits. I tried on one at a maternity shop and it was too big round the belly when I was 7 months pregnant - so def too big for nursing.

A few suggestions... Moms in Mind are relatively cheap, around $23 AU for a top including postage, I have four & they are awesome. They are in Singapore, so just google The other idea I've used is to get a belly band which are relatively cheap, then pull your normal top up. That said, some people like me, don't like all the extra fabric up around their chin while feeding.

thanks for that Sarah, great site - and i love the pics they have of the breastfeeding mums n bubs, and the sling photos.

i can't actually work out from the photos, how babies access your milk, but have emailed to ask if there are photos that show the openings in the tops.

Has anyone tried the Nursingwear Site - esp the blissful babes breastfeeding tankini? i'd love to hear feedback. i'm a D cup, wondering if they are supportive enough (shelf bra).
