So it's mental hot here, like everywhere else. We've both been sweating like mad. I just changed DD's nappy after probably 3 hours, and there's just one little wee in there and it is very very dark.
She won't take the boob much more often than usual (this week she has put herself on 3 hourly feeds) and I'm worried that she's dehydrated. What should I do?
Will she take water? When DD was born it was very hot and my pead told me to boil water and let it cool to room temp and then give her some drinks of it - she was on a bottle so she just took it form the bottle - but if not he said to use a little syringe and just put a few drops in her mouth at a time. HTH.
Keep up your fluids hun and just let her feed whenever she wants. Maybe strip her off and hop in the bath she may feed a bit better when she has cooled down? dont use cold water of course just tepid x
Yep, just keep offering. Hop in the bath together, and see if that helps her to suck. She's probably feeling pretty icky and hot, so feeding in the relative cool of the bath may be more enticing. It's important to get some extra feeds into her if you're worried about dehydration. If you're still concerned call the ABA helpline 1800 MUM2MUM (drop the last digit for VOIP phones).
Thanks girls. I did give her a bath, at 35 degrees, and that was great. Then I put her in a nappy and muzzy wrap and took her to bed, where she slept for three hours and had 4 feeds in that time.
Then overnight she dreamfed hourly from 2-6am. Bliss! Sort of...
