DS has always fed well, we have been very lucky to have next to no problems with our BF relationship.
Just lately though, it seems he has figured out that he can in his own way "ask" for it.
I have alsways fed him when he wakes up, before a nap, sleep etc. I have pretty much always fed to sleep, doesnt work so much anymore but anyway...
we are down to about 3-4 feeds a day, sometimes more overnight, especially now the weather is colder.
The problem is, if I am sitting down or accessible to DS he will come over to me and start pulling at my top, scratching my boobs, trying to pull them out of my top, I get that he is wanting to be fed, but when I try, he just has a quick suck then toddles off to do whatever, so I put it away, he comes back and cracks it as theyre put away again.
This is only a new thing, has been happening for about a week or so, and is frustrating me no end!
I hate to say no to him on this, but I cant just be sitting around with my boobs out all day!
Is this a normal phase they go through? will he"get over' it as such? I just thought that as he got older he would want it less, not more!
also how can I teach him a better way to "ask' for it?
any hints, tips or experiences appreciated! TIA
Yeah a phase I think. A few months ago DD was doing the same but she's over it now. She was wanting it all the time saying 'Booey!!!!!!!' and pulling my top down. But then she would have it for a minute and just play around but wanted them out all the time! lol. PITA but yep she got over it eventually!
He's learning about asking - which is really important! I think that after he's had his few sucks you should ask him to say byebye to your boobs, so he knows that they are going away for a while.
THey do grow out of it - for a while I would get home from work and be greeted wth "hello booboos" - but I eventually went back to being Mum.....
yes I agree it is a phase and DS did it too Just like with everything else I make him say please (or at least attempt) and so would encourage him to say 'boo please'. When he was asking for it all the time and it was a bit over the top every 2nd or 3rd time I would refuse and say 'later' and try and distract him but that is personal choice.
Jazz used to do this too...a ctually she still does if she think she can get away with it! If I am sitting she'll come up and say "boo boo? booby?" as sweetly and cutely as she can manage while climbiing into my lap.
I have had to say no or else she'd just feed for the entire time I am home at almost 2 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Distraction usually works, going to play. It's annoying though because it's usually when I just sit down from playing I've also been getting her sippy cup of milk. Or just cuddles and saying "No booby now, booby's gone nigh nigh" which SOMETIMES works
Thankyou all for your replies!
Im glad its a normal thing and that he will (hopefully) get over it soon....I just wish he was a bit nicer about it, he is just so rough! my poor chest is covered in scratches from him. He has such good manners with everything else but it seems he thinks the boobies are entirely HIS domain.
