    Attachment problem?

The last couple of weeks I think DD2 is attaching wrong. She keeps making a noise like she's losing suction iykwim?? She's ok at the start but when the let down happens she starts doing this. It's not hurting me or anything, just annoying. I just don't know how to fix it. I take her off and try again but same thing.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi,

I wonder if your baby is needing to release suction to manage a fast or forceful letdown? It's quite a clever trick babies learn to preserve their airways and manage the flow. I wonder, also, if your baby has had a bit of a blocked nose?If this is the case your baby may need to release the suction to give herself a little rest, to breathe. The good thing is, it sounds like she is feeding well and it's not hurting you. As she grows and develops this will probably resolve.

Spot on Barb! She has had a blocked nose, I should have realised that was it!

It might be the letdown also, I notice she pulls back a bit when the letdown comes and she's gulping really fast like she doesn't have time for a breath. I think with DD1 she also was like that at this age and I had to lean back to feed her so it wasn't drowning her!

Wow Heaven, I can't believe she's over a month old already. I'm so glad that feeding is going so well for you.

So, she is still doing it. No blocked nose any more. Still not painful or anything. It's just annoying. I wish she'd quit it. Is it just habit now? Any way I can get her to stop?
