I was told by a Dr (not my usual one) that because I am pregnant I needed to stop bf my DD2 otherwise I will miscarry.
I continued to bf her until she self weaned - oh, and I didn't miscarry either.

You know while it is funny to read some of these, when you really think about it, it's so sad people really believe such crap. Seriously, pedophiles, molestation, depriving our hubbies of 'their' booby pleasure...it's really really sad.
Here we are as mothers trying our darndest to do what we think is best for our babies while our loved ones and friends think these terrible things about us
Totally agree. Makes me sad how general public are so uncOmfortable with babies being bf.

DD1 was only 4 weeks when inlaws said "stop bf then you can enjoy your drinks" wow, wonderful advice, thanks.
Again at 15mths they tried comments like "must be time to wean" etc. Just cos mil bottlefed doesnt mean i should!!

Oh - and then there's the MCHN at my local, whose motto is "Breast is best. Bottle is better."

the one i always got from friends and family was ''i had to give my body a break in between kids'' im sure they were well meaning, but they would really get thier noses out of place when i disagreed.
and my mum straight out told me it was 'disgusting' from about 12 months on, and everytime i talked to her she was ask ''your not STILL breasfeeding are you??''

It's easier if you wean then when they are young. SO much harder if you wait til they are 1 or older.

How can something be better than best anyway?

Somebody actually did a study and found taht whether you breastfed or not made no difference to sagginess after having babies. The biggest determinant was the size differential pre and post babies.

i actually did have to give up breastfeeding both times when i was pregnant (but i am soooooooo underweight- 3 months pregnant with my daughter and i only weighed 43kg, i was 5weeks with my DS2 and only weighed 44kg)
but my mum nagged me for months prior to falling pregnant that i was just too underweight to continue yet my children did great and i felt fine

i replied before i read most of these

    some are beyond funny LOL
some are scary that people believe them

my daughter was 13months old when i weaned her (it broke my heart not hers) but id planned to keep going until at least 18months old (DH wanted me to stop at 12 months, i didnt!) but my mum was uncommfortable with her walking and still having booby and it never changed her mind when i explained what a beautiful feeling and bond it was!

and with formula babies sleep better ???????????????????????????????? my kids sleep 12hrs a night and used to have 4hr naps during the day,,,,, so if they were on formula would they have slept 20hrs a day??????????????
Both my last 2 children have sleep perfectly from day 1! and both solely boobie fed
DS1 (had colic and was EMB, but after 2 months slept perfectly)

    at five months
"you have to put her on formula now"
    why
    "cos she's five months old"
    and
"that's when i put my baby (16 years ago) on formula"
oh. so the fact that my baby is thriving, i can feed her, she can suck, there is no reason for us to stop the bf-ing r'ship, none of that matters, cos YOU put YOUR baby, on formula at five months old. uh huh. (i didn't say this to her, just went silent. withdrew from that friendship).

    at 19 months
paed. dietician told me my baby was getting NOTHING nutritional from my milk, and that i was feeding her for my own "needs". (!!!). he got aggro when i mentioned liasing with ABA to get advice. he just laughed at the WHO recommendation, about feeding to two years and beyond. i think he thought i made that up.

my child's GP sees my child so rarely, each time he sees her, they have to be introduced to each other all over again. that's how healthy she is. i am very happy she breastfed the amount of time, she did. (four years).

i loved being able to calm her with breastmilk, when she fell over etc, instead of having to use chemical pain relief to the extent i would have used it, if we didn't have the benefit of breastmilk.

My mum recently told me dd was too fat and I should just bottlefeed her like I did my boys if I couldn't manage how much milk I was letting her have. I was setting her up for eating issues because apparently I feed her everytime she opens her mouth.

After all the issues I have had trying to feed dd I was proud she was so chubby so I was a little hurt

Mumof2boys- that sucks xoxox but enjoy her chubbiness, out of my 3 my daughter is the chubby one and i LOVE it, (also there is evidence with BF babies are less likely to be overweight adults, so enjoy her chubbyness)
all 3 were on breastmilk and only my daughter is chubby (yes i know my 3rd is only new and still BF but his skinny like his brother)

Because he'll never stop if you don't and will still want to feed when he's 21.
Yes 'cause 21 year-old males are interested in breasts for feeding

I'm laughing at these but only so I don't cry at the ignorance. I've been fortunate enough to not get any comments about bfing DD. The scariest comments are those from health professionals. They can do the most damage.

Some of there comments.... seriously, WTF??

I personally haven't had any of these comments, as I became a bit of a closet feeder after DD turned 2 (I figured that by that age she was old enough to wait until we got home).

I do have to wonder about the people that say that mothers are feeding older kids for their won needs. Are you fricken kidding me?? Cause I just loooove it when I sit down to read a book or do some work on the computer (or look at BB) and my four year old climbs into my lap, lifts my top and helps herself... Some people have no idea.

I got another one today from another health professional of sorts. The lady who took my blood said to me
"What?, 16 months and your still feeding her?" "Your boobs will be around your knees if you dont stop soon"
I said "they were anyway before I even started but if your that concerned about it, you can pay for my boob job when she weans if you like!"

The rest of the test was pretty much done in silence

Seriously lady, they are my boobs and would you say anything about her still been bottle fed? It just happens her milk comes from my boobs so you feel the need to comment about it! Well Shut up!

You mean from peak of being pregnant? I've always gone back to loosely the same size after being pregnant but I pretty much gained half my bodyweight each time, and its not just the boobs that are suffering from very rapid weight gain and loss.

Although it was only the first baby that did that, nothing much changed with the second and third. Didn't even sprout any new stretchmarks, although if I did I'm not sure where I'd manage to put them, I already have so many! Got stretchmarks when I first went on the pill too, same reason, very rapid weight gain. I just have 'that' kind of skin

I actually KNOW of a woman who stopped BF her son at 8 weeks because her GP or MCHN told her it was the reason her baby was up all night crying ..... despite the fact he was gaining weight and having the wet nappy ratio and no SR or anything like that checked into it was just because she was BF.

    Sad sad sad!
