For the last 5-6 days one boob in the same spot is getting this massive blocked duct. With DD and lots of shower massage I am able to get rid of it but by the next day it is all blocked again and is this huge lump. It is not little, about the size of a matchbox. I am not engorged, my boob feels fairly soft except for the lump and dd hasn't changed her feeding pattern at all. Is there anyway I can stop it from happening?? What could be causing it?? It is starting to get very annoying, not to mention painful.
I don't know if its relevant but since it's been happening dd has also become more painful to feed, like bite my lip painful. And She has been fairly unsettled but I don't know if its relevant to the blocked duct.
One of the best things that helped me with a particularly nasty blocked duct that landed me in hospital was ultrasound treatment by a physiotherapist. xoxo
I second the ultrasound from the physio.
Also is something poking on that spot (a bra, your elbow while you sleep, DD's knee while she's in a carrier.......)??
Lecithin can sometimes help with blocked ducts too.
And gentle on the massage - sometimes massaging too hard can cause inflammation, making the blockage worse. You shouldn't need to massage hard, and probably not even firmly - more like cat-stroking level or lighter.
I'll call the physio's tomorrow and see what they say. It's on the top of the boob so u don't think it's from the carrier. My mat bras have been through 3 kids so they are super loose. I don't think it's from sleeping. It's fine when I wake up in the morning, it's by the afternoon that it's all blocked.
