There's really no need to use anything as it goes away on its own once the hormones settle down (and generally it's not from bfing as such, but just a late reaction from the hormones from Mum prenatally). EBM would be fine to put on her face though.

I'm not 100% where it comes from but it's totally normal and doesn't require any treatment

It only needs treatment if the spots start to look pussy, like staph. As staph can get into your nipples and cause infection there (and from experience that hurts) i was told my MCHN to give bubs a bath in physohex (sp) and that apparently clears it up after a couple of days.
I was told the hormones initially comes from the uterus then are passed through the BM until your hormones start to regulate.

Most babies get the rash a few weeks after birth, regardless of how they are fed.

DD had a bad case from about 4-6 weeks old, she was formula fed. It does eventually go away on its own. DD's was so bad they (the GP) was going to give her steroids.. i declined.

I have used a mild steroid cream called dermaid 0.5%. It is over the counter and my GP advised it is gentle enough for use on the face. It can be used a up to 4 times a day but it is still best to not use it every day.

The rash will disappear on it's own but if your little one is anything like mine, it was everywhere and looked painful. I used the creme morning and afternoon, made sure she had a deep bath every night so she could float, and plain old sorbolene at night. It changed from a bright red rash within 24hrs and after 3 days to a pinkish rash which i am now leaving alone.
