I am breastfeeding my nearly 8-month yo and want to start trying for another bub soon however I haven't started ovulating yet. Does anyone have any advice on what to do to encourage my period to return, ideally I would like to keep b/f until DS is close to one if possible. I have read that at 8-months I should offer solids first, so perhaps that will help things? Also, how many B/feeds does an 8-month yo typically have, DS is having 5 + 3 solid meals. Many thanks.
Hi Berry, I managed to conceive my little girl whilst breastfeeding even through 2 IVF cycles. I'm almost 29 weeks pregnant and DS is still breastfeeding at 18months.
I started ovulating and my cycles restarted when DS was about 8-9 months old and I didn't do anything different to get them back. DS was still feeding at least 10-12 times a day at that stage even with his solid meals. He kept feeding between 10-12 times until I fell pregnant and my supply dropped dramatically no matter how I tried to boost it. He's now getting generally 2-3 feeds in a 24 hour period now.
Not sure if you are still breastfeeding overnight or not, but I've heard that once some ladies night-wean their cycles sometimes return after that...
