My daughter turned one year old yesterday!! I never thought that we would get to 1 yr feeding so successfully and loving it so much! We still feed 6-10 feeds per day and love it! I want to say thank you to so many who have supported to us and ask those of you who are on this journey to post your experiences and tell your stories.
Now I hope that my daughter will have the chance to feed till she is 2 yrs old because of the WHO recommendations. If you have any advice or stories to tell about your journey I would love to hear them from you
i forgot to publicly celebrate this milestone for E and I, but like you, am so proud to have made it and looking forward to feeding til 2 and beyond if she still wants to!
Well good on you BG!!! I am mightily proud of our achievement! Last night or the night before my DH and I argued about the promotion of breast feeding for mums... he is a DR and I am a Nurse and he was worried that all this breast feeding publicity would hurt non breast feeding mums.... I reminded him that in his profession he publicly supports vaccinations because he believes that they support the over all heath of the average baby... he thought about it and realised that I was right.... breast feeding is equally as good for babies as vaccinations are for the general populations. I whole heartedly support ff mum's who need to do it for a range of reasons.... but I celebrate bf mum's who give their whole to their babies for the sake of the babies health. I am just so grateful we got there!!! I am mostly grateful for all the women who gave their knowledge to help us get to where we have!!! So Cheers to all the LC's and BF mums who's practical experience had helped us on our way!
Congrats Bella! My advice? Just keep doing what you're doing. Things don't suddenly change after they turn 1. Same as she's been gradually dropping feeds since she was a newborn she'll probably continue doing that sporadically until she's fully weaned (although sometimes they seem to go the other way and suddenly increase their feeds LOL). An as you probably know, WHO also says most children wean between 2 and 5. What a great job you've done!
Congratulations Bella and J! and also BG and E - and I suppose should congratulate myself and CJ too :-) - although she doesn't feed so frequently she still loves the morning and nighttime feeds (storytime with her dad gets her so hyped up I don't know what I would do without the boob to calm her down :-)).
I didn't really think about it till yesterday when was reading about what ABA meetings were coming up and one was Breastfeeding the older baby and toddler and I said to DD, that is you now an older baby! (definitely not a toddler, I would be surprised if she is toddling by Christmas!)
Congratulations Bella!! Amazing achievement!!! it's the best feeling isn't it??! Good on you for giving your daughter the best start to her life. I too enjoy BF so much and look forward to BF my nearly 17mo daughter until she's 2 (and maybe beyond if she wants to!!)..... I never thought I would have made it this far originally (mainly due to so many probs at the start!!) so it's so good we are here at this point. And it only seems natural to keep on going doesnt it??
I love hearing of others who have reached that special 12mth milestone too and who hope to also continue on for many more months (possibly years) GOOD ON YOU!!!!
