    Is he weaning?

DS is 20 months and has always loved his booby. I still feed him to sleep for his day sleep and of an evening for bed and he asks for it several times a day. If I ask if he wants booby, the answer has always been yes!

Then, yesterday and today he has been acting really funny with b/f. I should say upfront, he is sick, but this has never ever impacted on his feeding in the past.

For one, he has actually been refusing booby. I ask him if he wants it and says "no" and shakes his head. If I ask again and sit down like I'm going to feed him he says no again and even pushes away, sometimes gets a little upset. He has never done this before. Then sometimes he actually does ask for booby, so I feed him, but he won't feed properly. He has a couple of sucks (literally, two or three) then just lies there with my nipple in his mouth not doing anything - not even suctioned on. If I go to take him off he has another one or two sucks and then lies there again doing nothing. I can take him off, and in the past this would have really upset him, but he doesn't seem too phased. Other times he might ask for boob, but lose interest before I even go to put him on.

I have managed one feed in the past day - today when he went down for his day sleep, but that was after many unsuccessful attempts beforehand.

I know that him weaning while I'm pregnant is a possibility, but I would have thought it's too early (I'm only 13 weeks) for my milk to have changed enough for him to want to wean???

And after having said all this, I know it could just be because he's sick, but in the past he has always sought booby for comfort when he's sick, not turned it down!

Any ideas, advice, similar stories, etc would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds fairly similar to what my DS did, though he weaned a little earlier in the pregnancy. Your supply woudl have dropped, which may be why he's losing interest. I guess just play it by ear and see how you go.
DS also was never put off by illness (quite the oppostie).

Thanks for the reply . I think the main reason I'm confused is because it has happened just as he got sick. So, I guess he may be weaning then... if so, it has happened very suddenly. I suppose the next few days will really tell me what's going on... I guess I better figure out another way to get him to sleep!

Sounds like he could be weaning. When my DS self weaned, I'd offer but he wouldn't come over to me. Every few days he would come to me but he wasn't really interested and would only have a couple of sucks. It happened quite suddenly. One week he was practically tearing my top down, the next he weaned. Was too fast for me!

DS had a couple of okay feeds - one last night and one first thing this morning. But then he asked for booby just before, had two sucks, lay there for 30 seconds then hopped down and off he went - so I just don't know!
He woke up absolutely hysterical last night after being asleep for a couple of hours, and he didn't want booby then either. I had to take him out to the lounge room and put the TV on the calm him down. Life is going to be pretty hard without booby as a magical cure!

I thought the same exact thing when Moo woke up overnight and refused booby! I was all "what do I do now?!" He is very happy with a cuddle and some water usually.
